All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: When to be on the road out of AkGenerally there is a chance of running into snow in the Rockies after mid September. Certainly the nights will be crisp even before Labor Day. But you can linger in the middle and southern parts of BC till late October, so keep that in mind. If you have the time and inclination it's possible to follow the fall colors south for months, which can be pretty incredibleRe: Why do you prefer your rig?I've tried most everything and like our TC best. Nothing else that I can both take into the back country, which is where we camp, and just get in and go. Yeah the room is tight, but we spend almost all our time outside. My TC is 8', no basement, and believe me on a one ton, wind is not a factor.Re: Newbie questionFind the weight rating for your rear axle. Once you have that you can try to upgrade your wheels and tires to come close to it, but you never want to exceed that rating. Honestly, for that truck, I'd be looking at a 21' trailer. And make sure your hitch is rated for that 1000 pound tongue weight. Weight distribution helps some, but essentially you need a class IV hitch. As noted above if you have to do a lot to make that truck work at a marginal level for your trailer, you're better off to put that money into a different truck. You're likely to put a chunk of change into upgrading the truck and then end up buying a different truck anyway.Re: How to get Data in Canada? If you have verizon you can use your phone just as though you were in the US for a $2/day fee. YOu only pay that $2 if you use your phone. that is for phone minutes and data. Much better deal than they offered even a year ago. I go to BC a lot so it works great for me. But most of the time I'm out of cell range anyway.Re: Raised White Letters or Black Walls OutDo you want to keep the white stuff clean....or not?Re: Mail when full timingSwitching everything to electronic that you can. Paperless statements, statements that go to your bank, automatic payments, etc. After that we use our daughter's address. Most junk mail will send only one piece to each address, so it has not increased her load of junk mail. She just throws it in a box and we pick it up when we can, and she has a mental list to senders which might need immediate attention. Remember your children owe you ;-)Re: Who all has more than one RV?We have a 1998 Pastime 8'TC and also a 1963 Oasis 19' travel trailer, but it's stationary, and a 1981 Alfa park model, which has been totally remodeled, that's home for half the year. The Oasis serves as guest quarters and my wife's craft shop.Re: Trailer body lengthUsually it is the body.Re: Your favorite campground for the view.....Camping on the Homer Spit in Alaska is pretty incredible. Up the road at Stariski is what is purported to be the most scenic campsite in the world. It looks out over Cook Inlet toward Mt. Illiamna....it's always full, but the view is jaw dropping. In BC on Ross Lake I've camped several times at #8 which looks right out across Ross Lake at the Picket Range, and if you get there on Sunday afternoon it is most always available. There are many more great view sites if you explore BC and Alaska.Re: Suggestions for roomiest floorplan for 8A park model will give you the most room, but it will be tight with 8 people. You're going to be limited to 1 BR and maybe a loft. Don't expect the loft to be useful for anything but sleeping or storage and marginal for that. Perhaps plan for some outside living space, a deck or something. A park model is going to be 400sf or less. We feel OK in ours with 2 of us but 8? I don't know.
