One year, I dropped the camper at a campsite for 2 weeks without the truck. More like cabin camping. . . Re: Are you REALLY that inconsiderate??My story is more about stupid than inconsiderate, but I thought I would post it anyway. Went camping last weekend at Manning Park, here in BC (park is on the US border). There's bear warning signs all over the park, and "Be Bear Aware" signs at every washroom and toilet. There's a report of a small (400 pounds) black bear in the area, spotted near the end campsites. We just went through wild fire hell here this last summer and there are still fires burning not too far away. I'm walking my dog (2 poop bags in my pocket, just to be sure) and I go past a deserted campsite. Coolers out, food on the table, campstove and BBQ out and a fire burning in the firepit! What is wrong with these people?Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015Many gas stations in BC require payment in advance before they turn on the pump. I think it's a law passed when an attendant was killed during a gas and dash. Plus many stations have a $100 limit on your card. Many times I have to swipe twice just to fill up. I'm planning onleaving Vancouver June 13 for a 3 week northern trip - Whitehorse is the farthest north I'm going. Any idea of the type of weather we'll get in late June? And how are the bugs, big or small?Re: Vancouver Island tripIt's been a while since my trip but I'd like to post some observations. Stopped at Woss Lake - it's a forestry campsite maintained by the local logging company. Huge disappointment. Poorly maintained, outhouses haven't been updated or changed in over 10 years (at least) I think they are the same ones when I was there 20 years ago. Tables are in very poor condition. If they are going to let it go that bad, then tear it out. I thought it was more of a safety hazard to leave the campsite in such disrepair. Stopped off at Marble River, but didn't stay. It too was maintaind by the local logging company, but what a difference. Clean. New outhouses. Nice spot. Stayed at Victoria Lake - Spruce Bay. Nice place. Could use a little upkeep, but OK. Definitely will go back. My tire story - The road in from the highway is 17 KM. At the 15k mark, we hear and experience a rumble coming from the rear?? Stop and find the right rear tire is shredded. Must have driven on if for a while, even though I never noticed any change except for a little more rattle. While I'm pulling all my stuff off the rear seat to get to the jacks (yes I have 2 jacks - a 6T hydraulic along with the OEM), my wife notices the front left tire is very rapidly losing air. 2.3 KM from the campsite, 2 flats, no cell service... My friends were at the campsite with his matching truck. Short story - his spare, my spare got me moving. New tires in Port Hardy. OK Tire Store in Port Hardy were great. Left there after spending the week fishing and went to Morton Lake near Campbell River. The road was poor. Washboard for most of 5 KM. Shook the******out of everything. Campsite was OK for a Provincial Campsite, but the road. Probably not going back.Vancouver Island tripPlanning a trip to the north part of Vancouver Island later this summer. Maybe start from Comox and go north from there. Looking at going to Port Alice and Gold River. Anyone have suggestions for camp sites? Last time I was there was almost 30 years ago. Stopped at Woss Lake overnight and some rec lake site just outside of Campbell River (can't remember the name of the lake). Any suggestions would be helpful.Re: BFG Rugged Terrains?I have BFG All Terrain TA's on my Suburban and wouldn't run with any other tire. They are great in snow and mud, but too noisy to put on my PU. I went with some Goodyear POS cause I thought they would be ok but they clogged in mud and snow. I was planning on going with the All Terrain on my PU probably next year despite the noise, but now I might consider the Rugged Terrain.Re: How important to keep things level?I've been running my fridge at 1/2 a bubble for the last 4 years and haven't noticed any issues with the fridge. I still bring along some wedges for under the tires to get it close.Re: Diesels HassleI have a Chevy 07 Classic. Can't see ever going back to gas. Wish my Suburban was diesel. I've had no problems. Regular filter and oil changes. Gotta watch the rear tires for wear though!Re: I am selling my Outfitter Apex. Beware of scammers!Sold my boat on CL. First response was a scammer. Was offering to purchase sight unseen with payment by PayPal. I responded at the first reply, with a valid email address, and shut him down on his second response. Never heard back from them again. Third response to my ad go me the buyer. They showed up with over $7K in cash, and drove off with my boat....Overall, I'm pleased with selling on CL, I've sold several household items. Rarely deal outside my area, so I need to see and touch the money before I sell.Re: How many TCers here?269
