Have fun!Re: Trip Report: The Perfect Family Trip!tragusa3, we'll be hitting Gros Ventre in the Tetons on June 19 and then moving on the Lizard Creek on the 23 for a few nights before heading into Yellowstone. Have you been to Tetons before? If not, you'll be inspired!Re: Trip Report: The Perfect Family Trip!Tragusa3 thought you should know that your thread is still being read! We are counting down the days until we leave Dayton, OH and head West. It is partly due to your posts that I cancelled two nights at Grand Canyon and booked 3 nights at Watchman. We are going to be on the road for about 40 days beginning at Zion and moving to Grand Canyon, Durango, Ouray, and Moab before heading to Tetons, Yellowstone and Custer. The year of planning has been a blast for me and I'm hoping that the trip will be EPIC for our family of six. Your pictures and captions really helped me to visualize some of the places we'll be seeing. Time as a family is precious and I wouldn't trade it for anything. One of the great perks of being in education for sure. I'm bummed that your folks didn't want to see your videos, but in the end... you did it for your family not them. Nevertheless, I know what it is like to want to share your excitement with the ones that you love. Thanks!Re: Trip Planning Advice NeededThanks, tragusa3! I'll definitely read your trip report. I'm hearing what you are saying about GC to only 3 days. I will consider this as there is so much to see and so little time!Re: Trip Planning Advice NeededWe are going to be on the road for about 40 days total. We will leave Dayton, Ohio and head to Mather CG at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Here's the plan: Dayton to Grand Canyon - 4 days Mather CG @ Grand Canyon - 5 nights (reservations) Lightner CG in Durango - 3 nights (reservations) Head north to Grand Tetons NP - 2 - 3 days for camping and stops (working on where to go) Gros Ventre CG in Tetons - 4 nights Lizard Creek CG in Tetons - 4 nights Madison CG in Yellowstone - 3 nights (reservations) Canyon Village CG in Yellowstone - 3 nights (reservations) Cody, WY (motel) - 2 nights Blue Bell CG in Custer - 3 nights (reservations) Head for home stopping in NE & Chicago to visits friendsRe: Trip Planning Advice NeededWow! Thank you to all who responded to my request for travel advice! I have decided NOT to go to Colorado Springs after Durango on the way to the Tetons. A bit more about our camping crew... There will be six of us; my wife and I and our four kids ages 10 - 16. We will be pulling our Little Guy Silver Shadow tear drop with a Nissan NV3500 van. We'll have two small tents as well. I'm not too concerned about steep mountain inclines or winding roads as our trailer is very light. Many of you recommend sights and CG's that I've never even thought of exploring. I now need to get out a map and start to research these great options. Thanks so much!Re: Trip Planning Advice NeededThanks, agesilaus! Have not done Mesa Verde. First time out West with the family and have only been to Tetons & Yellowstone before. Mesa Verde worth a look?Trip Planning Advice NeededThis June we are heading to the Grand Canyon for 5 nights and then on to Durango for 3 nights. After that heading North to Tetons and Yellowstone. Then it's on to Cody, Rushmore, and Custer SP before heading home to Dayton, Ohio. Here's my dilemma... I have 3 nights / 4 days travel slotted to get from Durango to Jackson / GTNP, but no real stopping spots picked out yet. I was planning to check out Colorado Springs on the way to Tetons, but now am looking for other options. Going from Durango to Colorado Springs would take us back toward the east, so it is the wrong direction. I've heard great things about Colorado Springs, but would it really be worth it or are they some other places worth visiting/camping more due north of Durango? We've never been to Utah or any other place south of Tetons. What would you suggest between Durango and Tetons? Looking for both sights and specific campgrounds. Thanks for your advice!
