Usually once in truck the gen stays.Re: Rear License Plate and Truck Camper?I have never moved mine from the original spot to the camper. When i am towing its blocked. Not towing its still visible under the overhang. I know i can be pulled over for it just havent bothered with it.Re: Propane steak saver adapter not legal in Canada?I have had one of those for years it doesnt adapt to the newer hoses though only the old style. Its a helpful piece if you have a propane fill station like we do at work.Re: Black Water TankNever got the dont use the crapper to drop logs in it people?? I have a camper and a toyhauler that i bought for this reason i like to use my own not a public restroom to drop logs.I fill it up then i dump it after a trip no biggie.Re: is it nessasery to stop at weigh stations?I'll tell you from experience if you are diving a commercial vehicle in CA you must stop if the sign says all trucks stop at scales.Im not talking about regular pick ups with commercial plates either but any truck that does not have a stock bed on it. If it has modified bed it is considered "commercial" even if it is a 1500 series half ton. This can be utility bed, stake bed, flatbed, etc. If the trucks have gvwr over 10k they also have to get a CA number wheter its for private or bus use (if there is not a stock bed)example 3500 dually with a stock bed no problems can pass by.Same dually take off the bed put a flatbed now you must get the ca number and now have to go thru the scales. My old work truck was a 3500 flatbed i didnt stop CHP at son onofre scales chased me down and cited me was a 300 dollar lesson. My new work truck is a 2500hd single rear wheel with a flatbed i go thru one officer stopped me to verify the gvwr becasue there was no CA number it was under 10k so he said free to go i asked him about this truck going thru he said yes as well.Re: Installed LED light bulbs in the TC. jimh425 wrote: Ivylog wrote: I'm still amazed that people still buy expensive LEDs when you could have gotten 10 for $15. For me, I've read too many horror stories about cheap LEDs melting and catching fire, and I also wanted warm whites. In any case, it should be a one time investment. Same here i bought some good ones for 10 bucks a piece warm white 405 lumens. They also have a wide voltage range i think 9-30 volts so surges aint gonna hurt from when the battery is recharging. my uncle was braggin about how cheap he got his for on last trip but when he saw mine he said mine were way brighter and a couple of his had burned out LEDs that he "forgot to mention"Re: 2007 Chevy 2500HD Crew mileageSounds about right for me i get 8 towing my toyhauler its a 21 ftr but loaded its about 7500 pounds plus the bed is loaded too.Mine is an ex cab short box 4x4. With lance 8.5 camper towing boat i can get 10 if i keep speeds under 58 mph after 60 it starts to drop fast at 65 its 8 mpg.Re: Transmission struggling blt2ski wrote: If it is a 4l80e, I am surprised it has that many miles on it doing towing duty. I usually only get 30K with 5-8K mile fluid, and every other change a full flush of the TC. While a lot of folks think that trans is a great towing trans, it is in reality, one of the worst ones out there. It has the tallest first gear of an auto trans, so it really has to work to get a load going. Marty I have the 4l80 in my 2500hd and i think its been a great trans. My truck also has the 4.10 rear gears too.I do tow quite often but i also drive with a softer foot i dont race off the lights jsut gradually get moving. On the grades i aint floorin it to get up quicker just set the foot to half throttle and let the engine do the work where it finds its sweet spot.If i hit a slight grade where the truck is defintiely not going to pull 4th i let it drop to 3rd then drop the shifter to 3rd do it doesnt hunt for OD.Trans temps before aux cooler would hit 230 on a hot day 100 plus climbing long grades. Now with an aux cooler most it has hit was 200 on the same grade on a 110 degree day and dropped my avg temp by 15 degrees on the flats to 180 towing boat with camper. It aint the fastest but has done well.My old 3500 work truck with the 6.0 gas had 160k on the first trans but the converter stopped locking up so we replaced it the second has 175k on it and still feels good.It was loaded every day for work and got lighter as the day went on and since it was a company truck i did drive it hard.Re: Ceiling Lights - Hotreplaced mine with the 5050 leds they have 27 diodes and are the multi voltage type,Yes they do feel cooler to the touch warm may be best but definitely not hot like the 1157 type. And the power savings was very noticable well worth the money.I also got some 6k to try at first was too blue i ended up getting some 3k ones and the temp is very similar to the 1157s.I ended up using the 5-6k ones for the outside lights.
