I agree, the old forum was full of knowledge and help. I even contributed some but don't know if it was lost. Anyway, the new forum has way too much white space and an amateur look to it. My opinion. Shop to remove and reseal Heki 2 skylight I have a leak in my Heki 2 skylight. Without going through the various edge sealing attempts, it seems that the best way to fix the issue is to remove and re-bed the skylight. Is there a shop on the west coast that can do the job reliably? As background for this question, I had a problem with the sunroof in my vehicle that dealers said would require thousands of dollars to fix. Then I found a gem of a shop that diagnosed the problem over the phone and did the fix for less than one thousand. They specialized in sunroofs. Now I am trying to find a similarly good shop to remove and reseal the Heki 2 skylight. (The sunroof repair was done by "Rose City Sunroofs" in Portland, OR) Thanks in advance. Re: EFB camper batteries -- has anyone used them? Lots of good info posted on this forum, as usual. Thanks for the replies and discussion. So, to wind it all up, I just bought two more Costco Interstate Deep Cycle, the same as I've been using for the past 3 years. Total for both batteries was $160. I have them installed and ready to go. I did notice that they have become a lot heavier than the last time I replaced them. 🙂 Re: EFB camper batteries -- has anyone used them? Thanks to both of you for the insight. I suppose that I will just continue to use ordinary flooded deep cycle batteries and take the Honda generator along if we want to stay out longer. It's been working for all of my campers since 1992. I just wanted something new and improved without any hassle. 🙂 EFB camper batteries -- has anyone used them? I am considering spending the extra cash to buy Interstate EFB batteries ($200 each) for the Northern Lite. I don't want to change the charging system to accommodate AGM or Lithium batteries. The two Group 24 just fit in the NL battery compartment so I can't go to a larger group size. I can dry camp four days (or less) with the flooded batteries so am hoping that I could stay out longer with EFB batteries. I would like to hear from anyone who has used EFB batteries. This is my first post on this new forum, though I was a regular on the old rv.net forum. I tried the camper forums on Facebook but they don't have the level of expertise that was available on rv.net. When I asked the EFB question on the Facebook groups all I got were replies saying go AVG or Lithium or a larger group size. I do hope that this new forum format will work as well as the old rv.net forums did. SolvedRe: Where have all the members gone on this forum?I have gotten out of the habit of checking here, probably due to Facebook, but my login still works. This is still the best place to find good info, IMHO.Re: NL Skylight lug broke off Dewclaw wrote: I have not posted for quite a long time but finally figured out how to post pictures. They are more than the size intended. Anyway, now it's easy to see what I'm posting about. Here is a picture of the skylight showing the place where the piece (lug) broke off. Here is a picture of the piece that broke off. Here is a picture of the other skylight latch, still unbroken. I guess that Imgur does not keep the pictures for long. :-(Re: NL Skylight lug broke off d3500ram wrote: I agree with Beagle on the opinion of quality of Heki... I wrote a critical opinion of them in THIS TOPIC. I had one of the black colored "forks" of the rotating portion break off on my last camper... Crazy Glue did not work. But the rotating part in my situation and the "lug" as you call it are only part of a lock of sorts. I say lock because I am not sure if it is meant to keep the skylight in place while traveling down the road. You mention that you "rope" yours down, but I just left my as is because there was a significant amount of downward force from the pistons holding it down. I installed new piston because the original ones would not hold the skylight in the UP position. I never worried about trying to get a permanent fix because they really held the window very well in the down position. But, if you want to fix yours, the frame is relatively easy to take down for a possible fix. Maybe you can install a metal angle with small nuts and bolts to replicate the piece that broke. I had to disassemble mine because the shade slipped out of its guide track slot. If you choose to take the frame down and the shade works properly for you, DO NOT LET THE SHADE SPRING AND ROLLER COME OUT OF ITS POSITION. It is similar to spring loaded roller shades on a house window in that you need to pre-load the spring. It can be done on the Heli but it is a PIA, Thank you. That is good info and a good caution regarding the shade spring and roller. I will probably glue a replacement piece on without disassembling the frame. I rope mine down with a piece of cord running under the mattress and then tied to the aluminum handle. A nice lady at the RV shop told me that was the only way they could get their campers (or something) shipped to the east coast and still have the Heki in place when they got there. So help me, if I every trade the Northern Lite in it will be for a camper with NO HEKI.Re: NL Skylight lug broke off Z-Peller wrote: JB Weld makes PlasticWeld. I would attach the broken lug back in place with JB Weld and fill in the topside of the lug with JB Weld at a 45deg angle upwards to give it some strength for pull of the latch. Picture looks like the latch has an ear that goes over the topside of of the lug as well as below, so that may have to be cut off to make clearance for the JB Weld 45deg build out bracing. For more strength against the upward pull of the latch and because of the upper ear, might be better to use a 90deg metal angle on topside of lug and JB Weld it in place..... Thanks. I have used the ordinary JB Weld with good success. I'll get some of the PlasticWeld.Re: loosing old membersI just returned after being gone for a while. The groups on Facebook are so easy to use and, shame on me, I'm on Facebook almost daily. Still, the experience seems to be here. Many of the Facebook posters are new to the game.
