Been through Hermosillo a couple times on the way to La Penita (near Guayabitos). Might be through in January or might head down the Baja. Safe travels.Re: Changes aboundI appreciate the info on this forum except that some of you Mexico veterans use acronyms for towns that this traveler has no idea of. I'm not a veteran, but I do have a good 12,000 miles (nearly 20,000 km for everyone else in the world) driving around Mexico. No idea where or what HMO is. Kino? Please help me out. I might be headed that way soon. Gracias.Re: Baja Trip In 2022Highly recommend Baja Amigos (bajaamigos.net). Our first Mexico experience was with the owners of the company (Dan & Lisa Goy) who have been specializing in tours up and down the Baja for many years. When I did my research, they were the most reasonable in price, had great pre-trip checklists, knew exactly what to do when we had a flat tire on our 35' Class A, and were fun.Re: cell phone in MexicoI notice that you indicate you do not currently have a cell phone in Maine but want one that will work in both the US and Mexico. We have AT&T and with our plan get unlimited talk in US, Mexico, and Canada. I believe it's pretty much the same with data, so we've used our phone as a hotspot when necessary. You'll have to decide whether the convenience is worth the cost. It certainly is for us.Headed Texas to Puerto Vallata area 1st of Year?Anyone headed south to the PV area from Texas (Rio Grande Valley or Laredo) with the start of the New Year and would like to travel together please let me know. Headed from Kansas City area south New Years.Re: Yucatán trip planningOur first trip to Mexico was with Baja Amigos and we had a fantastic time. Part of the deal was membership with Discover Baja Travel Club which pre-processed the FMMs (tourist visas) and gave us valuable info on travel in Mexico. Since then, we've traveled extensively throughout Mexico on our our after getting our feet wet with the caravan. We still use Discover Baja for processing and insurance throughout the rest of Mexico as well. Lots of options for you. iOverlander is a great source for camping info as well as Church's. This forum is great as well. Just ask for advice on best places to go, where to stay, how to negotiate the border crossings, etc. and you'll be on track! Buen viaje!Re: Best route San Miguel de All to Austin TX?Thanks much for all the help. I love this forum! MnMex, maybe we'll see you on the road. We're headed North in a few days. It'll be a lot easier now. Good travels to all!Re: Best route San Miguel de All to Austin TX?Thanks much MnMex90. Sounds like a good plan for us. Can you describe where the booth is to turn in our TIP? Also, where in MN? I'm from Grand Rapids originally, spend the summers there now. Gracias!Re: Baja SunriseWe stayed there two years ago. I agree with everything you describe. The only downside we found was the fast, noisy quad traffic up and down the beach (typical of the whole town) and the wind (also typical of that region). I could never leave the awning out if we left and often had to bring it in when we were there.
