There were no really steep hills. I am looking forward to taking that route again someday.Re: Winnemucca to Klamath Falls on 140I have driven the route from Adel OR to Medford in Hwy 140, as recently as two years ago, and it's a beautiful drive. I have not driven the section from Denio to Adel, but I am attaching a link of a video of the descent of the pass between the two, but it is probably a video of the 8% grade going the opposite way; E/B. Other than that section I think it's a nice drive. https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/oregon/doherty-slide-white-knuckle-driving-or/?fbclid=IwAR1S0BUCEaRGrqYm-KQanMYVblRnYHopWW2M46zMKR-5r9-90z4HqgVcxocRe: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and backRoad trip!!!Re: I-40 Anything worth seeingDon't forget to take your camera and stand on the corner in Winslow Arizona. Been there, done that and didn't see a single girl in a flatbed Ford. There is a cool statue there now of Glen Frey holding a guitar; such a fine sight to see!Re: I5 Bakersfield to ReddingI don't know where you are going on the Oregon coast. Having done all the routes to Brookings at the south end of the Oregon coast, and guessing you want to see the entire Oregon coast; also not knowing what equipment/experience you have; personally I would take I5 to W/B US 299 in Oregon and take US 101 North along the Oregon coast. The downside of that is you miss the northern California coast/Redwoods NP, but with the exception of an about 20 mile stretch of 299 in California it is an easier drive. My opinion.Re: Slide out awnings yay or nay?I guess I should throw my 2 cents into this. I have had a fifth wheel that for years had no slide toppers, finally installing them. I wouldn't be without again. They do reduce debris on the slide, and frankly I'm not interested at my age in climbing onto the roof to sweep the slides off every time I run the slides in. They aren't perfect, and the long slide will build up water in a heavy rain, but everything falls off, including the snow I sometimes get when you run the slides in. I have heard the complaint that they can be noisy in strong wind, but I have yet to hear it, plus it does keep the sun from hitting the slide top directly, giving it an insulative effect. I'm sold on them; just get a good brand.Re: RV Crushes TruckI'm not going to read all the way to the end, but the hitch wasn't closed and locked before driving away.Re: 5th wheel with largest tanksIt is becoming an issue that most of the new trailers are not offering things like big tanks and extra battery space for extended dry camping. We were lucky to get an Alpenlite before the company went under. It is great, and the 100/50/50/50 tanks, and a compartment for up to 6 batteries, are wonderful for extended stays. The manufacturers seem to think that the only places we go have hookups, and are for huge trailers. That is not the case, but is one of the many reasons we haven't bought a newer trailer, that and the manufacturers seeming failure to be concerned about longevity and dependability. Just a thought though, my brother bought a new trailer that had a small fresh tank and a dealer was able to retrofit a second fresh tank giving him 95 gallons of fresh capacity.Re: 6 Volt RV batteriesIn answer to the ingrained question...I survived on weak batteries for a long time, most of this season. I was getting by. Thanks for the suggestions. I also found I can get more of the Trojans through golf cart repair companies for alot less money, if I choose to do that.6 Volt RV batteriesI have been a fan of Trojan batteries for many years. I have a 2005 Alpenlite and use a bank of four batteries. When the trailer was new I installed a set of T-105s that lasted about 7 years, and I installed a new set. It seems to be time to replace them again as they won't stay charged above about 12.1 volts. The only issue I have is that the Trojans have gotten SO EXPENSIVE. What I'm wondering is whether there is another brand/battery that is reasonably priced and dependable.
