I would go North on I-65 then South on I-165 to the alt90 exit. (exit 2 - New Bay Bridge Rd) Its about 6 mi of interstate. The route across that bridge is an industrial area and less traffic and all 4-lane back to I-10. I have friends in North Mobile and they always use the bridge to avoid heavy traffic in Mobile. A lot of it is now a 6-lane system and the older 4-lane parts have been resurfaced. Currently there is construction from the rest area entering from MS for about 3 mi. then clear sailing to the Texas border. Texas is widening I10 from the LA border for a few miles and this is the last section that needs it. Slow down on this section as they are using the old lanes and they are in bad shape but its only about 6-mi. A good route to Galveston is to take HWY 73 (MM 873) through Port Arthur to Winnie. Its a good 4-lane. This will bypass Beaumont. South out of Winnie on HWY 124 and take the free ferry at Galveston. It a very good ferry and handles 18 wheelers and RV's with no problem. JimRe: Greenville SC to Townsend Tenn.123 to 76 at Westminster. 76 to 19 at Blairsville. 19 to 74. 74 to 411 at Ocoee. 411 to 321 at Maryville. 321 to Townsend. 411 is four lane from Ocoee to Maryville. The beach at North Beach RV did allow dogs on the beach in the past and worth checking out. Not many other beaches in Florida allow dogs. JimRe: florida keys campingIf you want laid back take a look at http://www.geigerkeymarina.com/ It's near mm10 so a short ride into Key West. Has a restaurant/bar onsite right on the water. It's not fancy but we loved it. You can book fishing trips at the site, or fish from your RV site. I just look at their site and it has had a facelift since we were there. Still the same laid back, friendly place. Watch the video for a feel of the place. jimRe: Interstate Deteriation - is it just me? Devoredude wrote: The roads are all bad due to the lack of gas taxes. Oh wait, there should be more taxes now at 4 bucks a gallon, shouldn't there???? Gas taxes are per gallon and not price. As the price goes up people use less so taxes are less. Some have suggested that vehicles be taxed by mileage instead of fuel. JimRe: Oregon TrailHere is a link to good information from the NPS. http://www.nps.gov/oreg/index.htm JimRe: Shady campground near Lafayette or Breaux Bridge,LaThe KOA at Exit 97 has lots of trees.
