Since then I have driven over a million miles, some towing 3 or four trailers - Toronto to Fla far more than a dozen times and since retiring at 59 and moving to BC have traveled (towing) across Canada & USA at least twice - PLUS 20 years of towing to Calif./Araz. During that time I have been in 2 accidents ( neither my fault Someone hit ME while I was on a parking lot) and have had 2 speeding tickets? Maybe not a record - - BUT not a bad average - I plan on taking a SENIOR driving test BEFORE my 85th in May. I still feel confident on the road - BUT I hope to have the sense to quit when I feel it is time.Re: Betty's CG in Abbeville, LAGlad to see BETTY'S is still open - we went there years ago and had a ball. I still have the t-shirt I got at Big Johns seafood house in ERATH LA. Had a great meal of "mud bugs"Re: Peace Arch border crossingI've used Victoria to Pt Angelas for 20 years - main thing is make a reservation on the Black Ball ferry, out of Victoria EVEN if you have to stay overnight in Vic. - once out of P.A Head EAST on 101 to I5 S. lots of fuel stops in P/A some further south till you hit I5. Many - MANY R/V & fuel on 5 all the way to the Mex border. We like to stay at 7 Feathers casino in Canyonville Or. GREAT PARK - hot tub free ride to casino - good food & fuel stop. Just ask if you want more details. BBTRe: 2019 Cross country RV trip planning Planning wrote: Ma'am, I would seriously counsel you to rethink your intended plan. You have, self-admitted, no experience regarding this. In addition, you are planning to do it in a vehicle that is already loaded significantly beyond capacity. You have no training, no experience and you are using equipment ill-suited to perform the task. As a result, even before any incident might occur, you have eliminated any safety margin that might be to your advantage. Another issue is the reality that it is not just about what you can pull; it is also most definitely about what you can stop. Even if you stick to interstates, if you travel through Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, etc, you will be in an environment that can tax novice drivers even when properly equipped. Add in a system failure in an under-rated tow vehicle piloted by an inexperienced driver and the end result can be a tragedy to you and others on the road. Please carefully reconsider your plans. THE ONE AND ONLY VERY BEST ADVICE if you plan on going WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI.Re: Landing gear/jack problemMy thoughts lean to - - only one motor driving two legs might cause a bind - If that is your situation. I like the idea of lube. I run the legs to FULL hight - block the frame - then do the LUBE JOB. and then run the legs up and down several times - - with NO weight on the legs. You guys have GOOD IDEAS. Once a year might be enough. I have ALSO BROKEN the main lower/raise screw - may have been due to poor material I WAS able to REDRILL the shaft and install a new bolt. NOW - any NEW trailer ( have had 4) BEFORE I use the unit I re-drill the screw holes and use a Grade 8 hardened bolts in US and NOT metric size to replace, !/4/ inch as I recall I also use washers to take up ANY slack in the unit - Like who ever heard of a square tube on a round shaft, the spacer washers take up ANY SLACK - NOW when I hit the Raise/Lower button it engages RIGHT AWAY - with NO DELAY of the round shaft taking up slack on the square shaft. I hope this sounds what I mean. Easy peasy - about 1 hr work - cured forever.Re: Annual Comanche Invasioin of Vancouver IslandSorry to hear that Lonnie - we never got a chance to meet. I hope your troubles vanish like fog on a lake by afternoon - may your quiver be full of arrows and game be close at hand and your wikiup be always warm in the coldest of winter. BBTRe: Staying in Canada in WinterThere ARE open RV Pks on Vancouver Island - all year - one within 1/2 mile of me. bbtRe: Any year round in Ontariosome consider 24 May earliest camping. I have been to N.Bay in May lakes still frozen. BBTRe: Toronto area Big Rig campgrounds?Still recommend Milton and Glen Rouge. bbtRe: Annual Comanche Invasioin of Vancouver IslandI have the same problem with Gitchygoomy - I write it out in pine tar 3 or 4 times on birch bark then pick the one I like most, boy, that pine tar sticks like - well - it sure sticks I have been trying for some time to attend one of your pillaging/burning parties but have yet to make it. GOOD LUCK GM (and Bride)
