After searching around for insurance on an F550 with a flatbed it appears it will be $50 more a month than on a noncommercial truck. So at $600 per year I'm not sure that's the route I will end up going. I placed an order for a 2023 F550 but it hasn't started production and the dealer only wanted $500 to make the order. I'm guessing he may have some grace if I'm still buying a F450 but we shall see. My question is to you F450 owners. In doing an online build tonight I noticed if I selected a removable tailgate option it eliminated the Lariat Ultimate Package. I know sometimes the online stuff is just screwy but curious if anyone of you have the Lariat Ultimate package and can still remove the tailgate to put the camper in? Thank you550 / 5500 insurance???I have an 2023 F550 on order and realized I have read and heard some insurance companies will not cover them. All my insurance has been through USAA for a few decades. I contacted them today and they said their limit for GVWR they will cover is 14,000. So I'm already at their top limit with my current Chevy 3500 dually. I've been meaning to shop insurance anyways so I guess this will be my catalyst to get moving on that. Any of you fellow 550 / 5500 crew have any suggestions on companies or willing to share what rates you pay to cover it? For reference the plan is the F550 / CM flat bed and Stablecamper box setup with a Arctic Fox 1150.Re: Anode Rod WearMy wear like that as well. I've always thought it's the area closest to the other metal source so it wears more there than the "free floating" end. Not sure I'm correct on that but it appears the anode is doing what it is suppose to do.Aluminum vs Steel flatbedMaking a transition to an F550 chasis cab and flatbed with storage boxes. I'm going with the Stable Camper bed kit with the CM flatbed. Here is my struggle - aluminum or steel? I live in Vancouver, WA so plenty of rain and damp. We do about 4 trips a year to the coast to go clam digging and drive the truck on the beach. The truck gets sprayed down as soon as we return. I take it to a car wash and spray the undercarriage out. We tow a boat to the coast 4 times a year, so it sees saltwater environment a bit. I plan to have the entire bed and boxes sprayed with a bed line regardless of what I go with. I don't have a need for the shiny finish on the bed and boxes so no reason to pay for that. My main concern is having the steel turn into a rusty nightmare. Just curious what folks' experiences have been with different type beds. Clearly aluminum is more expensive but maybe it's worth it???Re: Exterior wall vent fixI greatly appreciate all the replies and ideas. I will say I debated if it was needed or not. Just kind of assumed since it had clips there was a reason. I will say for the first year I didn't realize it had clips and just thought the fan sucked (or didn't suck) because we would run it with the clips close and it wouldn't do much! I'm pretty sure I've forgotten to close them before getting on the road a handful of times now and haven't seen any ill effects unless that how the one clip got snapped off. I may check out those screen clips just for a piece of mindRe: Exterior wall vent fixThank you. I knew I forgot something simple![img] [/img]Exterior wall vent fixNot sure how "technical" this is but I'm wondering if anyone has an idea for a fix for this. I lost one of the two tabs (circled in the picture) that secure the vent flap for when you are driving. I can't find anything online that allows you to buy just a new plastic deal. The new vent assembly is only $12 but than I'm looking a more involved replacement project. My theory was to fashion something to go on the bottom of the flap. Similar setup as the side vent tabs but larger and easier to access. Maybe just screw it into the bottom of the plastic assembly? https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Vents-and-Fans/Ventline/V2111-13.html Sorry just realized posting photos is beyond my capabilities on this site. Above is the link to the piece I'm talking aboutRe: Front tire wear after 27,000 miles languiduck wrote: I'm trying to figure out if the OP has gone 27,000 miles without a rotation, or is just starting to notice wear on the tires. Either way, you tow or haul heavy, you gotta rotated the tires to get them to last. Unfortunately you are correct. I never rotated the tires. When it's been serviced I was told they don't rotate dually tires. My stupidity for not doing it. But I will change my ways. Can't imagine why I've rotated tires on all other vehicles I've owned and not this one. I'm a learning!Re: Front tire wear after 27,000 milesThat all makes sense. I wondered about the heavy diesel engine in the front combined with the big ol' camper in the back. Put in some turns where all that weight shifts into the tires and there you have it. I will work on getting them rotated more and keep an eye on them for when they definitely need switched out.Re: Water pump questionI believe you should be just fine. My Shurflo sits on top of the fresh water tank. Outlet hose is on the bottom. Hose comes up and around to the pump. Truck camper set up and it works just fine. Also have one for the wash down pump on my boat. It sits about 3 feet higher than the inlet tube and a good 4 feet from the back of the boat.
