It's been very hot here in NC, 40+ days over 90 or something like that? I'm ready for fall. Fayetteville always seems to be the hottest spot in the state. Not much topography to channel breezes and not close enough to the coast to get the cooling effect of the water.Re: Recommendations for a Fall trip to MaineThanks so much! I am especially grateful for the specific recommendations that have been given to me. I was able to get a campsite at Schoodic Woods this morning, and tomorrow at 10 am when the purchase option opens I am going to try and get a site at Blackwoods for two nights. After that we can begin to fill in the travel before and after Acadia. I think we will have 1-2 nights in coastal Maine before Acadia, so thanks for those recommendations Fred. MikeRe: Recommendations for a Fall trip to MaineThank you Matt and Fred, this is very helpful. I’ll get busy making some reservations this week. Fred, you hit on a lot of our likes already. We really just enjoy interesting places we haven’t seen before and taking our time to explore. We also enjoy seeing waterfalls and lighthouses and it looks like Maine has plenty of both. Based on some reading, we were planning to spend at least one night at Schoodic point. I think we’ll be going throughFreeport, Bath and Rockland on Hwy 1 headed north so thanks for those tips. We enjoy maritime museums and there is have a really nice maritime museum in NC in Morehead City, near one of our favorite places to camp, Cape Lookout. Any suggestions for dispersed camping areas would be appreciated. MikeRecommendations for a Fall trip to MaineWe are planning to camp at Acadia National Park for 2-3 nights during the first week of October. After that we have 7-10 days to explore the rest of Maine. We prefer National Forest type campgrounds or dispersed camping as often as possible. Every 3-4 nights we like to use a full service type campground (like a state park) to empty the tanks, fill up with water, etc. We will be traveling in our Ram 3500 with a Lance hard-sided camper. I‘ve been researching White Mountain National Forest already and I‘ve come across Maine Public Lands, which seem to me to be very similar to National Forests. Does anyone have any recommendations they‘d be willing to share? We will make reservations for Acadia as soon as the 60-day window opens, but for those that have travelled in Maine in October, do you recommend getting reservations where available? it doesn’t look like you can reserve spots at the Public Lands. Should we expect them to be full and look for mom and pop style campgrounds? We prefer to be as spontaneous as possible. Our goals for this trip are to see some beautiful Fall colors and as few other people as possible (after Acadia). MikeRe: 3D Printing Success StoryI'm happy to share the contact information via PM for the person that made mine for me-no affiliation.Re: Is it common to remove your truck camper at your camp spot?We take the camper off our truck occasionally when camping. For example, when we were in Glacier last fall we took it off so we could drive the Going to the Sun road. We boondock a lot too, but we usually move on after 1-2 nights so it is usually not worth the time/effort to load and unload the camper. We've used the camper on the ground, off the truck for many nights and never had any difficulties. I believe some of the pop-up truck campers are not recommended to be used off of the truck, but I am not certain about that. I also agree that you would have access to a lot more dispersed camping areas with a truck camper as compared to a trailer.Re: Trip Report: 9 weeks of aimless wanderingThanks for sharing!Re: 3D Printing Success StoryI did not, but the part numbers were not the same.3D Printing Success StoryThe jack covers on our 2014 Lance 865 had gotten very brittle and I broke one of them when I was washing the camper. After an exhaustive search, I was not able to find any OEM replacement covers for the Atwood jacks. I found someone on Etsy that offered 3d printing services and I was able to have him print/create an entire set of new jack covers for not much more than one OEM replacement cover. OEM: 3D printed: There is a crack in the bottom part of the 3D part. I tried to stretch it around the jack when it was very cold, I am certain if I had warmed up the plastic it would not have split.Re: Delays in camper buiddateI agree, please don’t pay any attention to folks that have nothing better to do than be rude to others. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts and I look forward to hearing more about your trip home in your new camper. Like you, we live in NC and we camp and fish at Cape Lookout ( did you know you have to pay for a beach driving permit this year?) and enjoy having more free time in our lives to see and explore.
