So did mine, plus the refer. Capt RonRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Well I did it again....sold my PowerPro 3500 to my uncle here in Iowa. Never even plugged the camper into it and it had been run less than 10 minutes. He liked the heck out of it and doesn't have Pep Boys here so I sold it to him for what I had in it. Still have the Hondas and have run them non-stop while on the road. The are in the back of the truck and I run the A/C in my 5vr so that when we stop in a truck stop for the night it's already cool inside. Also the cats won't get overheated and I have power in the truck for my laptop. Probably will not buy any more of the Chinese generators because my old back can't handle the weight. Shouldn't have bought the 3 that I did but after reading this thread I just couldn't pass up the bargin. I have demonstrated these genertors to hundreds of people and seen about half of them buy one for their use. All were amazed at how quiet they are and the price is just too good to pass on. For a while we had a problem with availability but that seems to be resolved although the price did increase $20. I see however, the price in Minnesota is still $299.99. I'll still read the new posts here and participate if I can pass on any of the experience that I learned. Capt RonRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Duplicate post...deleted!Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. When I read about you putting it in your forward compartment, although yours isn't fueled, I wondered how many folks might be transporting generators with gas in them in compartments with electrical equipment. These fuel caps are vented and with the constant sloshing would likely vent considerable gas fumes inside the compartment. Some forward compartments like mine also house the inverter and fuse panel. One spark might result in quite a bad day! Anyone else have any comments on a way to possibly seal these caps from venting when transporting? I've looked at the one on my ELM3000 and from the way it's constructed it looks hard to do. My generator is fueled... but then there's no electrics other than a few wires passing thorugh my front compartment. I also store my Hondas and fuel cans in there. I will likely do as my neighbor did and install a remote fuel tank, filling the generator mounted tank would be hard to do with the enclosure installed. Capt RonRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Well, I did it again. This morning my next door neighbor knocked on my door and said that he was going down to Pep Boys to get his generator and would I like to go. To make a long story short I bought another one and my SO was not pleased, said that I was silly...that's how much she knows. She has a weakness for casinos and I have a weakness for generators. Anyway, since I'm departing in the morning for a 40 day trip I just loaded it in the front compartment of the 5ver and will permanently install it while in Iowa. By removing the cat carrier that never got used in 2 years and a cooler that rarely got used I ended up with the same space available. Placing the unit fore and aft along the curb side frame rail puts all the controls within easy reach. This also makes it easy to build a metal enclosure for it and to install vents in the front wall of the compartment and to cut vents in the floor below. BTW, she doesn't know that the generator is in the compartment. Besides, if one of my Hondas fails then I have a back up. Then we'll see how silly I am, god knows that she refuses to be without A/C. Jim The Pep Boys here got 40 of them this morning and after honoring all the rain checks still had 10 left. Every one in this campground that was waiting have now been down to get theirs. One guy bought 3. VicT, Glad to hear that you got you smoker under control, the 16 hour run should have broken it in for you. Capt RonRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. VicT wrote: Thanks for all the advice on my oil problem. I will let you know as I progress through this and answer some of your points: 3. Going back to my original posting the Oil cap/dipstick was tightened, allowing oil to come out during transport if it was not standing up correctly. I believe the oil drained out and every time the box was moved it ended up running all over the outside of the engine. There seemed to be a fair amount in the air cleaner. How could it have gotten inside there. Is it possible if the unit sat upside down for a long period of time that oil could have saturated through the cylinder into both the airbox and the muffler. 4. I do think that there is oil in the muffler as it is when the muffler gets hot then the smoke gets real bad. I think this unit will be ok and I plan to run it till the smoking stops on Wednesday evening. Or I could run it here and tell my neighbors I bought a fancy new misquito fogger. The oil can definately get into the air cleaner and muffler through the cylinder if the valves are both partially open and the unit is upset. Do they ship these units with oil in them? All the ones that I've seen were dry and the customer had to fill it. My point is that shipping with the oil filled leads to just the problems that you are having. Try running the unit without the air filter so that there is unrestricted air flow. Running it for a short time won't hurt it. The foam element is supposed to be saturated in oil but too much will result in excessive smoking, squeeze as much oil out of the foam as possible before reinstalling. Oil in the muffler shouldn't be too hard to correct either. They are easy to remove and you can tilt it and work it around to drain any oil out of it. Then pour in acetone to rinse out the rest of the oil and let the muffler sit overnight to let all of the acetone evaporate before reinstlling the muffler or running the generator. This should clear up your smoke problem but that may not be the end of it. Running the generator with this much oil available in the cylinder can prevent the piston rings from seating resulting in low compression, blowby, and oil burning (just what you need right now). So it's important to get this problem under control ASAP!!! When you get the generator to run clean then place it under the most lod it will handle and run the heck out of it to seat the rings. Hopefully you won't have any more trouble with it. Take a look back on page 59-60 for some details on wiring the 240 plug. I was looking to balance some of the load by transfering the breakers to one side or the other based on how the circuits were used. Somewhere around page 57 or 58 I posted a link to a picture of my breaker panel and also a link explaining RV wiring. I would rewrite all this again here but I was in the middle of a nap and the phone woke me up. At least now I can get back to my nap... Capt RonRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. The PowerPro 3500 that I bought ran my 15K A/C and microwave, refer, and converter at the same time. I wired the 240v twistlock to a 50amp receptacle and plugged my 5ver into that. However when I turned on all the lights in the bathroom the breaker on the generator tripped. If I had put the refer on gas then there would have been enough power. Capt RonRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Sukerpooch, Make sure that the water heater is off or on gas, same thing with the refer. There should be enough power to run the A/C and the microwave, tv, lights, ect. without the those 2 heating elements on. Capt Ron
