Within 1000 miles I was doing a brake job again and installing new rotors. I tried to write it off as brakes getting hot when towing. Fact 2: Turned the rotors on the front of my Acura. Within 3000 miles the steering wheel was shaking when applying brakes. Another brake job. Turning the rotors cost me time and money in the long run.Re: 2016 Chevy SilveradoI am not brand loyal and see each Chevy, Ford, GMC, Nissan, Ram & Toyota from a level playing field. I agree the '16 Silverado is a great looking truck and is the best looking of the bunch. I also see one major "ugly" spot that I'm having a hard time getting past. The wheel well openings. They are too big vertically. The 1500 2WD with some sort of fender skirt isn't too bad. But look at a 2500 4WD and it looks absolutely silly. There is nearly a foot of open space from the top of the tire to the sheet metal bedside. You can try to make the argument it's for bigger tires but that won't fly because there is only about 4" to the front/rear of tire. Was GM reducing metal to save weight and money?Re: Cummins compressorMy '96 8.3 is slow at idle too. I recently had the air dryer replaced and the shop said everything is good.Re: enclosed car haulerI tow a 28" behind my 36' MH. Yes, all I see in camera is trailer. Issues I have. Loaded trailer weighs 8200 lbs. Tonque weight is 1280. On some roads I would experience some porposing so I bought a Trailer Toad which fixed that problem. As one other OP stated many states have max length laws and some are absurdly short. I looked at a chart once and a couple states were 55'. Personally I don't worry about it. I know a lot of racers who have 35'+ MHs that tow 24-32' trailers. The biggest issue to pulling a trailer vs. a 4 down toad is you have to plan ahead. Getting around on two lane roads can be a little difficult at times when you have to turn at intersections.Re: New to TT - TT Tow Weight QuestionI found these two sites very helpful. Loading and Towing Guide and RV Towing TipsRe: New tires for my TVI love the Michelin LTX MS2s. I have load range E on my F250. I'm not sure what the three digit code is. It had a load range D Firestone on it when I bought it. You'd think going from a D to an E the ride would get worse due to the heavier side wall but that wasn't the case. In my opinion: ride - excellent, tire wear - excellent, road noise - none. We had a lot of deep snow in Indiana this winter and I was pulling people out of ditches without a problem. I wouldn't do any serious off-roading with them but last fall when deer hunting I parked in a gravel area along the side of the road. When I returned to the truck a few hours later the truck had sunk 3" into the soft ground under the fresh gravel. With sufficient wheel speed to throw the mud out of the tread and driver ability I was able to get out.Re: Transmission HelpYou say "a slight slope" which is a very relative term. I'm from WV and my wife from IN. We have very differing definitions of slight slope. Try going up forward and see if it does the same thing. If it only does it backward and not forward then it's possible the pick up tube is toward the rear of the transmission pan so when you are on the slope the fluid goes to the front of the pan and the pick up is sucking air.Re: Need new tires. Questions about upgrading..!I love the Michelin LTX MS2s. I have load range E on my F250. Ride - excellent, tire wear - excellent, road noise - none. For your size rim a load range D may the be the max you can get.Re: tow package,Agree with gemsworld with one small caveat. The baseplate for a 2003 Ford Explorer may be the same as a Mercury Mountaineer as it is realistically the same vehicle. BUT it may not be depending on the manufacturer of the baseplate. When I bought the baseplate for my Explorer I wanted one that was as hidden as possible. The Demco version had the connection points come through the facia area in place of where the fog lights would have been. Other manufacturers had the connection point below the facia.Re: LBZ Duramax Worth the Money?I agree with the last couple posts. A few years ago I needed a truck and wanted a diesel. The problem - people were treating their diesels like gold. After separating the wants from the needs I opted for a F-250 V10. I paid $8K less than a comparable truck with a diesel. The V10 tows my 8,700 lb trailer just fine. The fuel savings argument is moot since diesel fuel is about .30 a gallon more than 87 octane. My V10 gets 8-9 when towing and 13-14 highway. My friends new F-250 with 6.7 diesel gets 16 in town and 8-9 towning. Granted, he's towing a 12,000 lb 5th wheel. But the point is, it will take him at least 100,000 miles to "save" $8k in fuel. But since his routine maintence outpaces mine he won't see any savings. Since I only put 5-7 thousand miles a year on the truck I expect it will rust away before the engine is worn out. Take some time to figure out if you NEED a diesel or WANT a diesel. If you aren't stuck on GM give the V10 a try. Just be aware that it's peak torque is at 3,200 rpm and peak HP is 4,200 but don't be afraid to spin it. P.S. I get better mileage towing with the tow mode on instead of leaving it off and letting it shift into OD. Good luck.
