I'm not sure where he got the estimate. It isn't surprising that fewer people are attending. Hotel room prices increase to $400 to $600 per night in that area during the Rally. Several members of our Harley group are going to Sturgis this year and they are going up early and leaving before the Rally begins due to the hotel prices.Re: Selling your Rv yourselfWe have our 5th wheel on consignment at a local RV dealership. It has been there for 3 months and hasn't sold. it is in excellent condition, but it is designed for a couple, not for people with kids. We didn't try to sell it ourselves because we would not be able to leave it in our driveway for buyers to look at due to neighborhood covenants and an overactive neighborhood association. We may end up just bringing it home and give up on selling it.Re: SD & ND travel just after Sturgis rallyThis year is the 75th anniversary of the Sturgis Rally and they are expecting 1 million bikers during that week. You probably will see bikes, but not everyone will stay for the entire rally. Are you worried about the bikers? Most of us are just working stiffs who like to get out on the road on our bikes. There are a few gangs that attend the rally, but the majority of us are just normal people.Re: Selling our 5th Wheel--ConsignmentThanks for all of the replies. DH and I took our 5th wheel to a nearby dealer and put it on consignment. They are reputable and are positive that they will sell the trailer. The deciding factor was that we live in a neighborhood that doesn't allow RV's to sit out in the driveway for long periods of time. Our immediate neighbors don't have a problem with our 5th wheel, but the homeowners association is a bit nasty about petty little things and we didn't want to take the risk. When we pulled into the dealership yesterday, two sales men approached us and told us they already have potential buyers for the 5th wheel. :) We will see if anything happens quickly. We know it is the right thing to do for now, but it isn't easy for us to see it go.Re: Selling our 5th Wheel--ConsignmentThanks for all of the replies. The two dealers that we talked to will pay the low end of book value and then they will list it for about $5,000 higher to prospective buyers. So, the amount coming to us is a set amount--regardless of the condition of our 5th wheel. Neither of the dealers has seen it and they won't offer any more money.Re: Selling our 5th Wheel--Consignment TucsonJim wrote: I've sold lots of items on Craigslist, and never had a problem. I do require that the only acceptable form of payment is cash. For anything over $100, I have the buyer meet me at my bank where the payment is immediately deposited, and then the paperwork (if any) is notarized if required. What you don't want is for somebody to give you a large amount of cash which they can then try to steal back from you later. The scenario where they try to steal the money back is exactly what we are worried about in selling the 5th wheel. It is only 4 years old with very little use. So, the book value is still fairly high. The only reason we are selling it is because DH doesn't have much vacation time and we don't use it. I hate to sell it, but our plans are to return to RV'ing when we retire in about 10 years and sell the house.Selling our 5th Wheel--ConsignmentDH and I have decided to sell our 5th wheel. We are trying to decide whether or not to try to sell it ourselves or just take a bit of a financial hit and sell it on consignment through a dealer. Our main concern about selling it ourselves is safety. We really don't want strangers coming to our house (too many bad things happen to people who sell stuff on CraigsList, etc.). We also worry about making sure their payment is legit and they can't get the money back once they have left with the trailer. Consignment seems a good option, but they are only offering the absolute minimum amount for trade-in--which is low considering the light use that we have on our 5th wheel. Do any of you have experience with selling your trailers individually or on consignment and can give us some advice? Thanks!Re: Ol' Blue, Debra NoppSo sorry to hear that Debra passed away due to cancer. I knew that she had been ill and was hoping that she would find a way to beat it. I lost both of my parents to cancer and in fact, I connected with Debra as I was grieving the loss of my mom. She had many kind words to say and she helped me get through a terrible loss. I have a copy of her cookbook and I will think of her each time I look at it.Re: Any Open Range owners on the forum? We have a 2011 residential series Open Range trailer. We love our 5th wheel and have only had one major issue with it. On our way up to a Nebraska Cornhusker football game, one of our side panels decided to try to escape from the trailer. Lots of duct tape was applied to the panel and we continued on our way. When we got back to Oklahoma, our dealer replaced the panel (it was under warranty) and also replaced our roof. We have camped in it in really cold weather in Nebraska and really hot weather in Texas and never had a problem with keeping warm or keeping cool (we have two units). We would definitely consider purchasing another Open Range again.Re: RV jewleryYou might try Bass Pro Shop--if you have one nearby. I found a cute pair of silver camper earrings last summer. They are shaped like a TT. Bass Pro also had a necklace, but I don't wear necklaces. You can also look for a camper charm on Amazon.com. They have some for about $11.00 each. Etsy has a bunch of camper charms available. You could buy a couple of charms and stick them on a necklace chain and/or a bracelet chain.
