They make Marine refridgerators and freezers that can run on 12v or 24v. One similar in size to the Norcold is only a couple hundred dollars or so more expensive, but they are proven units used in boats. I've seen a couple YouTube videos were people built their own campervans from scratch and installed Novakool units. They also had solar panels installed on the roofs with about 400 to 600 watts of battery. Since I plan on using solar in the future and building a camper van or enclosed 16 foot utility trailer/camper with 800 to 1000 watts of solar I'll probably go one of 2 routes. One is a large Domestic chest refridgerators/freezer in freezer only mode and a dorm fridge. The other route is a tall Novakool with freezer on the bottom and if needed a small dometic chest freezer/fridge I can fire up if I needed a little extra freezer space. If I stick with just my 28 ft TT I am considering adding solar any way. I might also replace my weak Norcold with a Novakool. For the Novakool RFU 6800 they list the amps at 5.2 @12v, so a sufficient of solar to augment makes perfect sense. I have a Nova Kool 6 cuft refrigerator and 6 cuft freezer and love them! .... they work great! Way better than absorption units! A 50% duty cycle is a good number to use as prichardson mentioned. I dry-camp 100% of the time, a properly sized solar system is the only way to roll ..... =)Re: Government Shutdown Quartzsite LTVAsDumpsters at La Posa South are full again ...... =(Re: New Verizon un-limited Jetpack/Mifi data plan Kountryguy wrote: Greed !! "We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this Agreement at any time" And on prepaid they do not, and will not, provide a notice. Unlimited my rear end. Reading the fine print, it's still throttled on 4G above 15GB. They have cleverly reworded the language. Once enough people buy into it and buy the overpriced hardware and they have made their buck from that, they'll then alter the plan again more to their benefit, count on it. On the new pre-paid unlimited jetpack/hotspot plan, throttling does not occur. The plan is subject to network management at any time, but there is no throttling at any specific usage limit. I think MIA is reporting this as well. If I didn't have the Connected Car program I'd go after this plan. As it is I'm going to drop my Verizon data plan as it totally sucks .....Re: New Verizon un-limited Jetpack/Mifi data planThe old Verizon UDP and the new AT&T Connected Car UDP are the only true UDP's. Both I believe are subject to network congestion and both are no longer available. All the new plans that say 'Unlimited Data' are the farthest thing from it .....smhRe: Mobley problemsDoes anyone have any information from MIA? ...... I want to keep the Mobley operating past the two hour limit. At 12.8 VDC the device still shuts down after two hours. I'm not using my Mobley SIM in the Mobley currently, so I haven't had a chance to play around with my variable power supply to see what the minimum voltage is for a "keep awake". I do know of someone that worked around the problem by plugging his Mobley 120VAC adapter into a digital lamp timer that shuts it off for one minute every two hours. Dutch: I'm starting to wonder if the 1.0.3 Firmware brings along with it the new AT&T Connected Car account requirements? I read somewhere the new program needs to have the Mobley 'mobile' if a dare say meaning it physically needs to be moved around like it would be in a vehicle. During the day my solar system charging keeps the voltage above 14VDC. The unit doesn't shutoff at 2 hours but the internet access does so I have to cycle the unit to get internet access again ..... smhRe: Mobley problems BluStem wrote: BoonHauler wrote: ..... would you have any idea of what the stay alive voltage is? It removes the "Never" timeout choice and also locks the SIM to the Mobley so it can't be used in another device. There are ways around both issues though. The Mobley will stay "alive" as long as the supply voltage stays high enough to simulate a running vehicle voltage, and the SIM lock problem can be fixed by asking AT&T tech support for a couple of PUK (Personal Unlocking Key) codes. The codes are 8-digits and are used when asked after entering an incorrect 4-digit unlock code 3 or 4 times. Only one code is needed, so save the second one as a spare. If you're not removing the SIM from the Mobley, just leave it locked for now, it'll work fine. Thanks Dutch for the heads up ..... would you have any idea of what the stay alive voltage is?Re: Mobley problems BoonHauler wrote: chuckbear wrote: magicbus wrote: BoonHauler wrote: This morning when I powered up I had a Red Power light, anyone have any idea of what that means?? ...... can anyone post a customer service number for Mobley? .... I'd like to call them. Thanks, Cee IIRC the red light means the Mobley is updating the firmware. Dave Depending on what light is red and if it is blinking, it means either a locked sim or a failed update. Chuck The Power (led 1) light would go steady Green for about 5 seconds then shut off, then the WiFi light (led 2) would come on steady Red. I called ZTE, they said try a Reset, unable to reset so they had me send it back to them. I've decided to purchase a backup Mobley, should be here next week. Just a quick update...... I sent my Mobley back to ZTE to be repaired and btw they never charged me the $49 service fee. The unit they returned to me was a entirely new unit. As it turns out the new Mobley has 1.0.3 firmware. The downside is that apparently the 'Power Save' does not have a 'No Time Out' option. have any of you run into this problem? ..... are any of you running the the new 1.0.3 Firmware?
