For the 1 ( or 2 ) yr factory warranty, I say go with price, plain and simple.Re: chevy 2002 1500HD Silverado donn0128 wrote: No, what I said was... the 1500HD was not a true 2500HD. The 1500HD depending on model year was also sold as a 2500. Not a 2500HD. Big difference. 1500HD/2500 got semi floating axle, lighter springs, less tires and wheels, all on the 1500 frame. The 2500HD got FULL floating rear axle, beafier springs, tires, and wheels all on a heavier frame. I believe the 2500HD also got bigger brakes, but that can be verified by checking a parts manual. The 1500HD was there to bypass some licensing laws for some states. Allowing them to be licensed with passanger car plates instead of truck plates due to the lower GVWR that GM placed on them. They were never a big seller as those that needed to tow heavy bought the 2500HD, those that wanted a passanger car bought the regular 1500. The 2500HD is NOT a 3/4 ton truck though ...the 2500 is a 3/4 ton truck 3500 is a 1 ton 3500HD is a Dually and rated higher... 2500 = 1500HD 2002 and 2003 chevy called them 1500HD in 2004 they called it a 2500...Re: X Chocks SoundGuy wrote: Artum Snowbird wrote: My fifth seems to be pretty stable on it's front landing feet but I have the opportunity to buy a set of X-Chocks for a reasonable price. My question is, are these chocks used more for trailers than fifth wheels? I am unsure whether I should just get four good chocks for behind the wheels, or trust in X-Chocks instead, or should I just pass and let someone else get them? X-Chocks don't know or care if your rig is a TT or 5th ... BUT they're not designed to actually "chock" the trailer and prevent it from inadvertently shifting, they're designed to reduce suspension "wiggle" when you walk around inside the rig. You still want to chock the tires with some other method that will absolutely prevent the trailer from shifting, as some of us have pointed out in this discussion. X 2Re: Sabre or SierraPop over to the forest river forums where you can research both models in their specific threads. lots of info there.Re: Forest River pecking order MPI_Mallard wrote: spadoctor wrote: Thor is screwing with KZ changing names etc. My dealer was told if he wanted the Durango Gold there was now minimum stocking requirements. And Jayco is changing things at Open Range as well. Personally if Thor does not change the factory operation I would easily stay with KZ over any Forest River. Friends have had nightmare experiences trying to get warranty work on their FR products. Every time I see a post claiming a "friend" had trouble with Forest River/Cedar Creek's customer service I wonder if there talking about the same company, I personally have had several dealings with CC's customer service and have had above excellent service, the clear coat on mine was flaking off and they re-finished the whole fiver free of charge and on our time-table, on a six year-old fiver! As far as a "friend" goes one of mine bought a new Cedar Creek fiver last summer as he liked ours and the few minor gremlin's he had were taken care of immediately and that's just one creeker that I know of! As my 07' CC Daydreamer was built to such a high standard I really can't see replacing her in the near future, we get compliments on her all the time from people walking by, on the way down last fall a bunch of biker's passed us on I-75 and was giving us the thumbs up, but when I have to do it will be another Cedar Creek! Red Green: If life gives you lemons, throw 'em into a quart of vodka. x 2, Is it the dealer pulling BS vs the manufacturer...Re: Open Range vs Sandpiper BunkhousesGo to the forest river forums, TONS of info on that particular model in the 5th wheel section.Re: I wouldn't believe this one... parked car hit me!being a campground, would they just go 50/50 on fault like they do in parking lot accidents?Re: Most reliable 5th wheelsLots of times it comes dwon to which 'plant' makes your model. Some are better than others. But end of day Look at which Manufacturers BACK UP their product, get back to you , and truly try to help problem solve. vs trying to find 'best built' as no such thing exists. As for local dealer etc.. buy where you get the best price. I bought from dealer 1500 miles away ( RVW). For a 1 year warranty to think buying local will help is a misnomer. YOu will still have to wait forever to get things done etc. Once out of warranty there are many, non-dealer options for service work. My 3 cents.Re: TT or Fifth Wheel-opinions wanted Californiadreamers wrote: Hello fellow RVers, My husband and I are RV newbies and recently retired. We currently have a 20 yo TT that we've used for a year and will be selling. Too small for us. We have a new Ford F-250 so towing options are open. My husband has never towed a fifth wheel. We've looked at over 100 RVs but still undecided between purchasing a TT or FW. Our friends all tow a FW. We would appreciate opinions between purchasing a TT or FW as our next upgrade, around 30' in length. Also undecided to purchase new or used. Thank you! If your friends 'all tow fifth wheels', then I think you know what your answer is... Buy lightly used and save some cash, or new if that huge 1 yr warranty is important.
