But, they are expensive and everyone's opinion is different. There are lots of good bed covers but I like the Retrax the best from what I've owned.Re: Grand Design Momentum , Think Twice Before BIG MistakeEvery forum of every brand has upset people, some deserve it and some don't. I've been the upset person before so I understand how he feels though I have no idea what the whole story is. I handled conflicts with my airlines pilots for several years and there's always two sides to every story. I still think it was unprofessional that a PM was copied and pasted on another forum. Not that I really care, it's a public forum and obviously whatever we type can be published anywhere. I just think is was uncalled for and in poor taste. No hard feelings at all, just uncalled for but maybe he was using it to help his case. I will say I spoke to a lot of Grand Design owners in June and all were very happy. Yes, some had issues like all RV owners but they were taken care of. As I've already stated I've contacted Grand Designs twice and twice I was able to get my questions answered. Personally, I think the RV dealers are the biggest issue with about 90% of the complaints. My brother and sister in law are missing their planned Labor Day weekend trip due to their RV being in the shop again. It was supposed to be done but isn't and it's a well known brand with a great reputation. Their dealer sucks and I looked seriously at a toy hauler they had and asked about their service department. I was told 8 weeks to even look at an RV plus parts time if needed. They won't order anything until the RV is left at the dealer even if they know what they need. Dealers can cause the manufacturers a lot of grief. It's the reason I went with price over locality and saved me over $11,000 from my local dealers bottom price. If I have an issue I normally don't have 8-10 weeks to get it fixed. If that was the case I might as well not ever own an RV as my vacations would be ruined more than not.Re: Pulling the trigger: Jayco Seismic 4112 taken wrote: joebedford wrote: taken wrote: As to towing 44', ours is a tad over that. According to the Forest River website, a 395AMP is 42'2". According to my tape measure it's 44'6". The industry is full of this. My last RV was listed as 36' on Road Warrior's website and was actually over 40 as well. They have since corrected it. One thing I've learned from buying four RV's.... never trust the specs on their website... Some of the manufacturers measure length from rear to center of pin. Depending on where the pin box is located can affect the total length. Grand Designs measures from the center of the pin I think so their Momentum's are a little longer than advertised. I'm going through this issue now as I need to make sure whatever I buy will fit in my 45 foot storage unit and know it'll be tight for sure. I'm hoping to not have to move to a larger size as they charge a lot more. I'm going form a 35 foot toy hauler to probably around 42-43 feet advertised length. As far as the license I had to get the Class A Exempt for my 35 foot toy hauler. It's based on weight in Texas. It's not difficult but it is kinda a pain just taking the time to do it. But, it is well worth it if it's needed and one less thing to worry about. Now, California is a different story and more in depth from what has been discussed in a long thread on another forum. If anyone ever needs any information I'd be glad to help. There's a very detailed thread on the Keystone RV forum.Re: Grand Design Momentum , Think Twice Before BIG MistakeFirst, I don't want to start any arguments or create any hard feelings towards anyone or any company. But, I don't agree with taking a personal message and posting it on another forum. There is no doubt two sides to every story. Anyone who has owned an RV also knows they all have their issues, some units much more than others, even if they are from the same manufacturer. I don't know the whole story so will refrain from any opinions but I do like to hear both the good and the bad of any product. I will add I contacted Grand Designs about a couple of questions and did hear back within a week. I have not heard back from one of our other top three choices. It absolutely sucks to pay this much for a new RV and have major issues so I understand the frustration. I sincerely wish both parties could come to an agreement; no doubt it would greatly benefit both of them. I went through a similar issue on our brand new home we had built two years ago. It was a nightmare and probably took five years off my life. I'll be pissed about it until the day I die but trying to get over being screwed out of well over $20,000. Anyways, hope it gets resolved.Re: 350/3500 series pickups - any improvement to the brakes?I was never impressed with the brakes on my 2011 F250, it was the only thing I didn't like about the truck. One of the first things I noticed about the 2015 F450 was that the brakes felt much better. Maybe part of it was the dual wheels or the fact the brakes are that much better but it is much more comfortable and reassuring while braking. The exhaust brake works well also and really helps slowing down without using so brakes so much.Re: 2015 f-350 with 4:30 rjstractor wrote: investr wrote: Would have liked a F450 but there are none for sale anywhere that I can find and cannot order a 15 so either get a 350 or wait a few months or more to order a 16 I wouldn't stress too much about F350 vs F450. The F350 DRW 4x4 with the payload package has the same GVWR as the 450, and for some strange reason the RGAWR is 550 pounds higher on the 350. According to Ford's website brakes are the same size across all Super Duty pickups. The F450 does have a wider track front end and the 19.5" commercial tires and wheels and a considerably higher GCWR. I'm guessing the derated GVWR on the 450 has something to do Ford wanting it to still be considered light duty instead of medium duty in the DOT truck classifications. Yeah, it sounds like the F350 with the max tow package is pretty similar to the F450. That's definitely a heavy 5th wheel so I was thinking for not much different in the price might as well get the F450. But, if there's not any around I guess it's not an option. I wasn't looking at F450's at all, my truck just happened to arrive and the sales guy called me because it was exactly what I was looking for as far as interior, color, and most all the options. I have been told ( by my dealer and others) the brakes are a little bigger on the F450 but I'm not 100% sure. In years past the rotors were bigger I think but I haven't confirmed it on the 2015. I found the most of the salesman I dealt with were pretty clueless on the Super Duty trucks and several flat out lied trying to make a sale.Re: 2015 f-350 with 4:30 invstr55 wrote: C130 wrote: I've got a 2015 F450 which has the 4.3 gearing. But, my toy hauler weighs much less than your DRV. Personally, I'd get an F450, basically the same price as a decked out F350. I think the sticker on mine was $72,000 or $73,000. It's the King Ranch, black carpet, and I love the interior. It doesn't have the rear heated seats which I wanted but could not find and also does not have the engine block heater. These are low cost items but this truck had everything else I wanted and I could not find one with every single option. In my opinion, when you get in to 5th wheels at those weights you need all the truck you can get. I would see no reason to get an F350 over an F450. Bigger suspension, bigger brakes, bigger wheels, commercial rated tires. I don't know all the weights on the Max Tow F350 but you do get some suspension and brake upgrades on the F450. It seems some have had issues regarding registration on the F450's, especially in California. I had no issues in Texas. I'm sure you know this and may already have it, but you will need a non commercial Class A license with that 5th wheel and with either truck. Would have liked a F450 but there are none for sale anywhere that I can find and cannot order a 15 so either get a 350 or wait a few months or more to order a 16 Understand, I think the one I bought was a special order and the buyer backed out. I saw another new one at the motocross track yesterday but the guy had done a lot of modifications to it, personally didn't care for it much. He had put black wheels on it, LED lights all over, some other******also. Just wasn't my taste though the guy had put a ton of money in to it. Tough decision, have you got to drive the F450? I drove several F350's and couldn't tell much, if any, of a ride difference. I'd almost wait until the 2016's come out if you could wait that long or buy anywhere I could find one.Re: 2015 f-350 with 4:30I've got a 2015 F450 which has the 4.3 gearing. My local dealer has started their Memorial Day pricing and discounting $12K off the big trucks! Can we have an Amen? There may still be time to repent and go back to a Ford before it's too late. But, sometimes you just have to learn from your mistakes. ;) Anyways, it'll be a very nice truck and know you'll enjoy it. Ford had better step it up, can't have RAM taking over. My point all along about Ford is they have just laid back since 1999 when the present platform was introduced. I am sure in 2017 or whenever it will be when they put out a new truck it will be of todays standards and it will be SAE J2807 complaint as the whole RAM truck line is. I agree, I thought about waiting then heard the changes might not come until 2017 when there were initially rumors of 2016. I'm already dreading when they do make the changes as I know I'll want the new one. I told my wife when I bought the F250 I was keeping it for many years. She reminded me of what I said when I bought the F450. I told her I was not making any promises from now on, it always comes back to haunt you.Re: Eyeing a F-450Honestly, I hadn't looked at the inside of a RAM in many years until a friend bought one a year or so ago. This guy was a die hard Chevy guy and I would have bet he'd never own any other vehicle. He bought a new RAM and brought it over for me to look at, I was shocked how nice it was. RAM trucks are definitely on the move up around here, pretty amazing how many more I see now compared to a year or two ago. My 2011 F250 was great and not one issue and I'm just hoping my new F450 is just as good.
