Found it interesting that the first handful of responses basically said "my truck didn't squat at all with my load, so I think I can carry even more". I sure hope those folks don't think that is the determining factor to decide whether their setup is safe or not. Wow... if that was the case, then I can pull a heckuva lot heavier trailer with my setup. Im all for being fully informed when making a decision. Being armed with the FACTS, and doing the math myself, I feel far more comfortable. If I exceed any of the recommended factors, I do so at my risk, and by being fully cognizant of what Im doing. If my brakes fail to stop me in time because I was over weight, I don't think saying that the guys on RV.NET thought max numbers weren't important would fly.. either legally, morally or ethically. I read this thread with interest, because Im thinking of upgrading to a Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel...Just because I can, and to have plenty of power and margin. That, and I've always been a fan of Dodge trucks, even though I currently have a GMC. Mike I agree. Brand allegiance runs deep. ;) I started the thread because I am a new owner of a RAM 2500 CTD. The fifth wheel that I desire would technically be too heavy in terms of pay load assuming a loaded pin weight of 2,500-2,800 lbs. I would still be under the RAWR and tire rating. If my Ram was a gasser, I know that I would be good to go. That is why I was hoping to tap into the experience of other Ram 2500 owners who are probably towing under similar circumstances. Thank you to all that have responded.Re: Calling all RAM 2500 fiver ownersThank you harley, was that 2500 a diesel?Re: Calling all RAM 2500 fiver ownersThanks IdaD. I understand your reasoning with the the 6.4 vs 6.7 payload. I look forward to others that have pulled with their 2500 coil suspension.Calling all RAM 2500 fiver ownersDear RAM 2500 Cummins owners, can you please share your towing experience with your 2500 and fifth wheel. (Particularly coil spring owners) I know there has been lots of discussion about limited payload capacity on 3/4 pickups. I know many are technically overweight. (See recent Ram 2500 payload thread). I just want to hear real world towing experience from those that pull fifth wheels with their Ram 2500 coil spring trucks . Please include info about your trailer including your pin weight. How does it handle the load?Seat Cover RecommendationsJust looking for opinions on seat covers for a RAM 2500.Re: Choosing TV and Hitch, Anderson Ultimate, B&WFirst of all, thanks to all who have replied to this thread. Interesting day. I made some phone calls today trying to figure out the best TV FW match/fit. Pretty unfruitful in that regard. One experienced service tech. told me to buy whatever brand PU I want and he can "make it work". Not exactly the scientific answer I was looking for, however he was confident. I also talked with several of the local dealerships regarding the Anderson Ultimate. Nobody even wanted to discuss that option. This must be tried and true standard fifth wheel rail territory. From what I have read, it seems to be a great option that would save a little payload lbs.Re: Choosing TV and Hitch, Anderson Ultimate, B&WThat's what I am worried about. It seems like I won't know for sure until the truck is bought and the hitch is installed. Anxiety provoking process.Re: Choosing TV and Hitch, Anderson Ultimate, B&WDear, Ib516--you are the one who stirred my interest in the RAMs. Thanks again. Seems like 0.3" is a moot point. Does your Cougar have 15 or 16 inch tires? How about your truck tires? ralphjoann--lets assume i buy a truck that does not match well with the FW. Is there enough play in the Anderson Ultimate to make any 3/4 ton truck work? Correct me if I am wrong but, my understanding is that the Anderson moves the pivot point back a few inches at the coupler but the weight is still transferred correctly at the truck..? I have been looking at low mileage used TVs. There is a used Ford Platinum with 20" tires that I would like to consider. It sounds like first I need to do some measuring. Is it possible to buy a stock PU with 18 or 20" tires that won't "fit" the trailer?Choosing TV and Hitch, Anderson Ultimate, B&WAfter an exhaustive search we found a FW we would like to purchase. The DW wants to buy it ASAP. Before I sign the check I have TV compatability concerns. The FW is a Keystone Cougar X-lite (7670 lb, hitch 1475 lb dry weights). Rounded front cap, marketed for SBs. I would like to purchase a 3/4 ton short bed diesel. I like what I have read about the RAM coil springs here on RV.NET. I think I want a B&W or Anderson Ultimate hitch. My question and concerns as I shop for a TV are; how do I know that my TV will match the pin height of the fiver acceptably to allow for a level towing RV and adequate rail clearance. Many newer PUs have higher sidewalls and 20" tires. For Example, the Ram Laramie has 20" wheels. (Do you purchase the horse before the Carriage, or the Carriage first and then the horse?) Maybe this isn't a consideration worth worrying about??? Can you just adjust for height at the FW hitch? With regard to the Anderson Ultimate Hitch, it appears as though this hitch would be advantageous for a 3/4 ton SB pick-up because: 1) Light weight 2) The hitch/ball adapter places the FW back several more inches allowing for more cab clearance. Thanks in Advance for the adviceRe: Ford F250 6.2 Liter gas any good? Slownsy wrote: Toving FW 10000 lb 10 mg no proplem and I used to have a 7.3 disel. Frank How about empty @ 75 mph?
