All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: overwhelmed newbieThat's a pretty big jump. I just bought my 1st a month ago, a 15' (19' bumper to tongue). The layout comfortably sleeps the wife and I, plus the 3 kids (all under 5). I have very limited towing experience, and that was the most I confidently wanted to pull, but every large one I looked at (25+) didn't really offer add'l sleeping capacity or common area. We've only been camping locally twice with it and mostly only stayed in it to sleep and prepare food. Just sayin', why do you want one so large?Re: Cheap Sway Control poncho62 wrote: I think what he is saying is that the air pushes the boxy travel trailer around a lot more than a car trailer...from all directions That was my take away as well. Unless you are a magician and can poke holes through your TT with a sword.Re: Cheap Sway Control mowermech wrote: "I'm not having issues per se, but just am freaked out about seeing 30'ers flipped over from a crosswind with TV on its side." I have seen it, or at least the aftermath. NO fancy hitch is going to save you if the wind is that strong! If it can upset an 80,000 lb tractor/trailer rig, your light little RV doesn't have a chance. A cross wind is an entirely different thing from a trailer sway event. If the highway patrol says high profile vehicles should park and wait, it most certainly means RVs. ANY RV! Be careful out there, the world is a dangerous place! How does one get notifications from the highway patrol? Are there signs out? Or do you have to check their Facebook page :)Re: Cheap Sway ControlI just bought a brand new Curt 2" rated for 550#, but the trailer is single axle, so I have no idea if it's front/back heavy. Tongue weight scales are $150 :( I just read instructions on how to use a commercial scale. Do they mind us RV'ers just popping in? http://www.etrailer.com/faq-how-to-determine-trailer-tongue-weight.aspx EDIT: actually my Curt is 7500 lbs GTW/750 lbs TWRe: Cheap Sway ControlSince my trailer is so light (15'box, 19' bumper to tongue), I'm just going to try the sway bar for now. I'm not having issues per se, but just am freaked out about seeing 30'ers flipped over from a crosswind with TV on its side. EDIT: I've not seen this in person, thank goodness.Re: Cheap Sway Control@gbopp, I'm an IT guy I should have done that haha, thanks for the assist. I think I get it, the sway bar is for left to right, and the spring rods are for front to back? Didn't realize the spring bars reduced load. Is it a fair statement to say sway control and weight distribution save fuel?Cheap Sway ControlWould something like this for $45 be perfectly fine for a 15' (19' bumper to tongue) trailer, pulled by a 1/2 ton truck: Curt Manufacturing 17200 Sway Control Kit http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HLO7QA/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER Are the $250+ with the spring rods worth getting? Should EVERYONE have sway control? Why isn't it standard?Re: What If's and FavoritesI have a Tundra 1/2 ton with the smaller V8, carrying a 15' box. Pulls fine, pulls idling. Still wish I'd gotten the larger v8 and a 4x4 though.... Either way you'll love the Tundra, turns like a kitten.Re: Just got my new TT home last nightLet us know once ya'll take it out. How are the sleeping arrangements for you family? My trailer is only a 15' box w/no slideouts, and there are 5 of us (all 3 kids under 5), so no worries yet :)Re: 1983 Man-O-War (My First Trailer - Requesting Advice)BEFORE: AFTER (STILL WORK IN PROGRESS): UPDATE 8/25/2014: $40 paint, $20 stain, 12*2=24 hours work: $35 for fabric, will make cushion covers this week: Paint color is Sherwin Williams 6785 Quench Blue http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW6785-quench-blue/ Door stain color is Minwax Mahogany, lightly coated.
