The only reason for the original prep is to get rid of the layers of crud. My MH looked like it had a crackle finish. To get rid of the black mold in the seams and crevices I used a tooth brush and mineral spirits followed by scrubbing the whole rig with BKF and a good wash down with Dawn and a rinse. The final wash with Dawn is very important to get rid of any powder residue from the BKF. After applying the RMP I did notice, months later, black streaks running down the side after a rain. I simply sprayed it down with plain water and rubbed with the brush. Gone. When you get back from a trip, from what I read here, just hose down the cab-over front to get rid of the bugs. No scrubbing. Finally, if you don't wait for the MH to look dull again all you would have to do is wash it down with Dawn and re-apply the RMP.Re: What did you do to your Class C MH today???Yesterday I removed right side aluminum running board, repaired damage best I could, cleaned it up with metal polish and buffed it to a brilliant shine. Today I put the new 2" Skid Proof tape on the running board and re-installed it. I then removed the left running board but the heat got to me and the rest will have to wait until Saturday. Maybe this time I'll take pictures. I also want to install the two new Co2 detectors, give the Onan it's monthly run and check for Co2 inside the RV. No doubt a Gen-Turi is in my future.Re: What did you do to your Class C MH today??? Off Pavement wrote: Added a Winegard Wingman to the TV antenna... tough job! Took maybe all of 2 minutes once I got on the roof. You lucked out. When I did the mod and lowered the antenna the Wingman wanted to hit the A/C unit. I had to unfasten the antenna base and turn it a few degrees C/W. Unfortunately there wasn't a helper inside to guide me and the shaft is off center. :S It doesn't turn as easy as it should but I can live with it or cut away some more wood from the inside to make the hole larger.Re: What did you do to your Class C MH today???For the rear bed I purchased a memory foam mattress made in the USA and started on the repair and refurbishing of the aluminum steps on the cab. Tomorrow I'll buy a couple rolls of Skid Guard tape also made in the good ol' USA. :)Re: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C oldtrucker63 wrote: I'm going to check out THIS site to see if I can post a lot of photos of the house rebuild, If so I will keep everything posted and will post a few photos here also. OT, while you're there check out this rebuild. I just started reading it and am only on page 3 but it is interesting and funny too. My wife was born in Germany and her relatives can't believe the projects we take on without previous experience. :BRe: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C mikakuja wrote: Congrats on the house trucker, looks like you definitely found a project... good luck. Are you posting your house rebuild here or are you on another forum with this one? I would like to follow the build and see where you go with it. X2 OT here's a couple of sites in the DIY forum that you may find useful. This one is for showcasing your project and this is for getting advice. Watch out for that Chinese drywall :E Some of it may still be around in supply houses, never can tell.Re: What did you do to your Class C MH today??? I sawed mine off also but intended to leave the bottom and rear to use as "L" brackets to hold the 5"x5" PVC fence post and end caps that I bought at Home Depot. However when I got the job underway this is what I ended up with: That rusty mess on the ground is the bottom of the bumper. All that was usable were small vertical sections. To these I mounted PVC "L" brackets that I made from the remainder of the fence post that I cut down. From Lowe's I bought a 4" wide rain gutter to serve as a hose tray that easily slides in and out of the 5"x5" bumper. It comes in 10' lengths but I use the remainder as a tool tray when working on the RV. I made handles for the gutter out of 3/4" PVC pipe with a cap on each end and used aluminum rivets to fasten them to the ends of the hose tray. Everything is now rust proof. That glob you see at the end of the tray is dead grass or something on the ground not on the tray. I believe people found that ZEP sold at Home Depot is the same thing. I even know what shelf it was on but the clerk had no idea what I was talking about. Either she was new or sworn to secrecy. :B I never did see more than 2 gallons of #3 on the shelf. Either it sold fast or they kept the inventory low. I still have 2/3 of a gallon so it may last for another 2 treatments maybe more if 1 new coat will restore the shine when the time comes. I'm going to put some on my big metal tool box and see how it looks before doing the cab.Re: Shiny RV with Red Max Pro (pics)I believe that somewhere in this thread is a post by someone who gave the BKF/RMP treatment to the metal cab of their rig. Not only did they get the same dramatic results but as a bonus, after a trip, they hosed down the the bugs on the front of the cab to "loosen them up" prior to scrubbing. They were surprised to see the bugs fall right off the surface without washing. I parked my rig under a shady oak tree and used 4 coats of rubbing compound on the cab followed by a coat of Turtle Wax Ice. Back in the sunshine I could see heavy streaking where the rubbing compound didn't completely do the job. So, while waiting for delivery of the new torsion springs for my garage door, I'll use BKF on a wet rag and get down to clean paint and then wash with Dawn and apply RMP3. Then comes the dingy aluminum running boards which I'll remove, shine, coat with RMP to preserve the shine and then replace with new hardware. BTW, when I go to Lowe's and ask where the Red Max Pro 3 is they look at me like I have 2 heads. :RRe: Shiny RV with Red Max Pro (pics)TRNFLA - You did a great job. The results are amazing. I hope you didn't get hurt falling off the ladder. I used my Baker scaffold and was able to wheel myself back and forth while doing the top half. It saved a lot of time because I didn't have to climb up and down the ladder and all of the supplies was on the scaffold with me.
