So our total cargo is 2600 lbs. We are full time and our cargo is a closet full of clothes, under bed storage is full as are all our cabinets and basement storage. When we weighed, we had maybe 1/4 tank of fresh water estimated at 160 lbs, and two full tanks of propane, maybe another 60 - 70 lbs. I keep all my tools in my truck, so no added weight in trailer for tools. I'm sure a weekend or occasional user could be a thousand lbs lighter, but I personally would steer clear of a 30 ft or longer rig with cargo capacity under 1500 lbs. To me, that speaks of too light construction.Re: DRW disadvantagesThis is a silly discussion. If one needs a DRW to handle the payload, there is no disadvantage.. It's an advantage to have a DRW to do the job. The same discussion could take place on the disadvantages of any two vehicles, one compared to the other. The disadvantage of an Impala over a Prius for example. I have a DRW because I need it to properly handle my load. No disadvantage whatsoever.Re: Domicile GMandJM wrote: Florida. No state income tax, no personal property tax on cars and RV's, no vehicle inspections (other than proof of mileage when registering), no special license requirements for driving a motorhome and car/driving licenses can be renewed by mail. Sometimes "no" is a good word. :) Insurance is more expensive, but there's no deductible for glass (windshields). . When we moved from Indiana to Florida in 2005 and changed our vehicle registration to Florida, they did have to physically confirm the stated mileage for the Florida title. Other than that, no inspection.Re: CAMPGROUND PIGSWe've been camp hosts in five different State Parks in TX, CO, WY, UT. In pure numbers, we've found most are respectful regarding trash. Those who are problematic are those in greater numbers or drinkers. Finally, the biggest problem with trash are the youngsters. We've encountered several Boy Scout groups of various sizes from 8 to 50. 75% of the time they leave more trash and really messy table tops and fire pits than any other. Leaves a poor taste in our mouth for The Boy Scout groups, especially the leaders who allow it. It is what it is in our experience.Re: Strange parkWe've been in State Parks that have a one way drive with pull over sites on both sides. Those sites on the left have to pass the water & elec under the rig, (no sewer hook up) and the entry door faces the drive... We've seen this on occasion in parks, but it's not real common.Re: 2WD vs 4WD tow vehicleYou will have a much larger supply of the 4x4 to choose from when shopping for a good used truck. Also when it comes time to sell, it is a more desirable feature. I see no good reason to avoid a 4x4 truck.Re: Refrigerator Propane vs ElectricWe've been full time for over 3 1/2 yrs and early on experimenting, our Dometic seems to work as well on electric or propane.. So, now we always just use electric except when we are unplugged it's on propane. Temp is always 36 - 37 degrees; Haven't detected a difference.Re: Storage OrganizationWe lay our chairs flat. I built a platform, imagine a table with short legs. I can put chairs on the table top and other items under. Works well for us.Re: Rt.101Last time we drove it from Astoria to Vancouver, no issues... Nice route.
