The overall system works well, and the autostart worked great, but after a few tests the genset (Onan 2.8/2.5 lp with 55 hrs) started throwing a 27 code (no AC voltage sensed). It's in the Onan shop now, but in the process of further troubleshooting we disconnected the control harness to eliminate the new wiring system and (1) we now get a Code 36 (no fuel) and (2) the indicator light on the switch on the generator is about twice as bright as when the control harness is plugged in. Does anyone have any idea on why the indicator brightness would change? - Clay Re: Ordering my new Arctic Fox..option questions Vinsil wrote: Thanks for this. Do you feel the flip over couch could seat 4 adults or tow and two children? How does it compare to a regular dinette in terms of bed space? I like the extra room of the flip over couch but do I give seating and bed space over the dinettes? Thanks you have the same thing I’m buying so any help is appreciated! I'm of 2 minds about the couch. It really opens up the interior, and is easy to flip down and make into a bed, and is long enough of course to lounge around under the window, instead of climbing in the cabover. OTOH, the table isn't all that sturdy, since it's supported by 2 legs in a line, and it does make it hard for a couple of people to sit and play cards or whatever. If you're camping with 4 people, I think I'd probably go with the standard dinette. The other option we got is the side wardrobe in the cabover. That's excellent - gives significantly more storage. If there's a drawback to having that in the 992, it makes the only window on the curb side the small one over the galley, and makes the cabover fairly dark and feel more closed in, and you can't see what's making noise on the right side of the camper while you're in bed. But, I think the tradeoff is fine, especially since you're there to sleep. The major drawback of the 992 is the access to the cabover, which is half (or less) the size of other campers. But for having the dry bath, we think it's more than a fair trade!Re: Ordering my new Arctic Fox..option questionsWe ordered a whole host of options, but the main difference was getting a roll-over lounge, which is much easier to set up into a bed and gives some additional outside storage. See pics atmy original post here. Personally I think the rear awnings aren't very useful, unless it rains alot - we went with both the side and rear awnings, since a side awning is away from the steps.Re: A 2015 GM 3500 Dually Diesel and ArcticFox 1150 QuestionI've got a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali, with a 2014 AF 992 (about 5500 lbs ready to camp) - I traded in a 2011 Denali dually last fall. I also tow alot - 5500 lb boat/trailer, 9000 lb 3-horse trailer, plus some smaller stuff. There is no issue with my camper fitting the 2015 - I have a spray liner and a rubber map, all is fine. I can't speak to the 1150 but I assume it fits similarly if not the same. I've found that the 2015 has slightly softer suspension than the 2011 - it sagged about 3" with the camper on, vs about 1" for the 2011. I put upper Stableloads on the 2011, and that worked fine although I had to cut them down by about 3/4" so they wouldn't hit the spring pack when empty. For the 2015, I put in lower swing-out Stableloads, but the truck still sagged about the same (but was much more controllable). I ended up putting in airbags to level things out, which works great as long as you keep enough weight on the spring pack. My weights with the 992 loaded (I think it's only a couple hundred pounds lighter than the 1150, if that) are: 5000 steering 9050 rear ==== 14050 So, about 1000 lbs over the 13,025 GVW, but it handles fine. So far this year I've done 2 round-trips from WY to GA (1900 miles each way), towing the boat half the time, and it rides and drives well. - ClayRe: Stableloads, What do you think? ticki2 wrote: I don't think upper stableloads from torklift are available for GM's prier to 2011 . I had them in my 2007 Chevy dually, but I haven't checked the Torklift site to see if they're available currently.Re: stableload quick disconnectI've got a '15 GMC dually, and put in the lower Stableloads as well. I can only get 2 wedges in with the truck empty and sitting; I also have about 1/2" of clearance between the spring pack and the overload to work with. With my AF992, the truck sags 3" with 2 wedges in, 3" without. They may make a bit of difference in handling, but unlike my '11 GMC dually with upper stableloads, the sag is too much. Actually, the '11 didn't sag more than a couple inches with the same camper. I'm going to put air bags on as well, so that I can easily raise the truck, use all 3 wedges, and adjust ride height. With a 5000 lb+ camper and a 5200 lb boat/trailer on a 36" Supertruss extension (no option for a weight-distributing hitch on the trailer), it's just too much sag and really affects ground clearance on the extension. - ClayRe: From a Tbird forum I go to,,,, BurbMan wrote: I see the mirrors on the camper but none on the car itself? I would think this is completely unsafe, but people used to drive a bit slower in the sixties. I can only imagine backing down the boat ramp,,what a crowd you would have! Clay, are you on any of the tbird facebook pages? There are a few good ones. ITC is a good one that I got this from. Frank I wouldn't think it safe either, especially considering the brakes on that vintage TBird - and it's not like they have great ground clearance to carry the weight. No, I'm not on any of the FB pages, haven't hung around any TBird fora for years eithers. I'll check out the ITC page though! - ClayRe: From a Tbird forum I go to,,,,Well that's just too cool - a camper AND a boat towed behind a bullet bird!! Ship in molasses - good description - I always tell people they drive like a sofa. I've got a Piper Saratoga that taxis the same way. My pride and joy is a car that my Dad bought new just before he left Ford, gave to my mom a year later, and was my mom's minivan when I grew up - a '66 silver rose TBird convertible, 428, A/C, power everything. I still have it and drive it often in decent weather. - ClayRe: DohIn Alaska 7 years ago, we ended up with hundreds if not thousands of mosquitoes in the camper one night (no particular screwup, they just swarmed in every time we went out - it was the only issue with mosquitoes we had the whole trip). I had no idea how to get rid of them all. In the morning, I had the bright idea to take the screen off the Fantastic fan in the cabover in our AF860, turn it on high exhaust, and hit the road - half an hour later, no mosquitoes in the camper, and all I had to do was clean the leading edges of the fan. - Clay
