They flat will not work. The first time I had my Norcold looked at the tech took it out of the compartment and noticed that they were hooked up backwards. Even he thought they would reverse like that. I got a spare 12v battery and tried them BOTH ways and they would only worked when they were connected the proper way. So if you have one of the "Never Cold" fridges... check the polarity on the fans.Re: Fire Hazard Appliance Recalls UPDATED NORCOLD INFO 11-20-2010I don't know how many posts it takes to get people to realize that you don't want to trust a Six Figure coach, or even less, to a 39 cent half a$$ed repair. Don't any of you realize that it's just a temporary "rig" to try and get you to forget about the fire that could possibly happen to your coach? When Camping World put that piece of garbage on my Norcold and told me that it was free I knew something was amiss. Then I had a certified tech tell me that it could still catch your fridge on fire at the worst but at the least it would continually quit working and leave you without a cold place for your food. So what did I do? I ordered the Amish kit and installed it 3 or 4 years ago and now ask me if I am having any problems? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! It took about 4 hours or so to install. It was one of the easiest fixes you could imagine and the only down side was that I had to ask a friend to help me lift it back into the slot. It's considerably heavier but wayyyyyy more solid and reliable than the original. Now I keep it on "2 or 3" and it's really, really, really, cold. So keep trusting that flimsy repair and get the sticks ready with marshmallows and hot dogs ready so that if your beautiful rig goes up in flames you can cook while you cry. And I hope and pray that never happens to anyone... seriously. BTW I do NOT have any business relationships with anyone or company that has anything to do with the Amish kit. I just happen to love mine.Re: Fire Hazard Appliance Recalls UPDATED NORCOLD INFO 11-20-2010I beg to differ but not start an argument. This is exactly what I was told by both the serviceman who put the retrofit on my unit and the Tech that came to look at my problem. Not all Norcolds have a problem but more do than don't. My friend, feel fortunate that you don't have a problem but by the amount of people on here that DO have a problem it's worse than they are admitting to. Good luck with your Norcold.... I now have the Amish cooling unit and love it to pieces, especially when I'm sleeping or have left the coach. Test your smoke detector regularly!!Re: Fire Hazard Appliance Recalls UPDATED NORCOLD INFO 11-20-2010In my estimation, it's futile to keep toying with the Norcold refrigerator. The "fix" for fires is only activated when it senses an actual fire and does not prevent fires from occurring. It shuts down the unit only after a fire is detected!! I had it done to my Norcold as soon as I found out about it but then I realized that I had to keep my unit constantly on 9 to keep it cool at best. I looked into the Amish unit and bought it immediately. What a difference. I am not trained in cooling units but it went in without a hitch and I did it by myself except for help putting the completed unit back into the opening. It's considerably heavier and MUCH MUCH better constructed than the Norcold. Now I keep it between 4 and 6 and it stays around 37 to 40 degrees. Before I did the replacement I wasted $150.00 by having a Tech come to look at it BUT in his defense, he did find that the fans were hooked up ( wired )wrong. The 12v fan will NOT reverse if the wires are connected incorrectly and they will NOT work AT ALL in that configuration. As soon as he reversed the wires, the fans came on. Could it be that someone at the factory has been "sabotaging" the installation?Re: Fire Hazard Appliance Recalls UPDATED NORCOLD INFO 11-20-2010I found the solution to the Norcold problem. I replaced the entire cooling unit with the new Amish Unit. What a MAJOR difference!! Cools very quickly.... no known problems, stays super cold and with absolutely no experience.... I did it myself. It's not all that difficult. It's much heavier and I had to have help sliding it back into the compartment but it made a world of difference.
