All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Residential 10.6 cu ft frigFor those of you that have installed this Whirlpool refrig, I have a question on the size. I noticed that it has rear coils and was wondering if the coils were included in the depth dimension. The factory specs show it is 23 deep without the door. The problem is my entry door is 24" (plus a hair) wide and if the 23" factory depth does not include the coils, I might be screwed getting it in the door. The width of 24.5 on the refrig is just alittle too large to get through my doorway. Any thoughts?? ETA: Just checked on the Frigidaire equivalent to this refrigerator and luckily it is 24" wide. Looks like I have finally found a refrigerator that works in my space.Re: Survey - How Do You Store Your Class A? Everything went perfectly on our maiden voyage, it just took awhile to get on the road. We double-checked everything and used the method suggested here re: letting the straps pull the tire forward the last inches. We stopped numerous times to make sure the straps were still tight and I was surprised they required little tightening. Only had one click tighten at the first two stops after that, it was fine. Thanks to everyone who provided us with helpful advice - this forum is great. Update - Just wanted to provide an update. It appears that the larger tires with the wide wheelbase are damaging the hooks on the straps. Since the hook is under the tire, the clasp is getting damaged by the tire when traveling. Acme has a solution to this problem which involves welding two additional loops on the vertical portion of the tow dolley next to the tire. This modification will eliminate the hook getting caught under the tire, hopefully. Haven't be able to get the dolley to a welder yet.Re: Concerned over ACME Tow Dolley Straps wbwood wrote: Ours came with the yellow straps like this picture... Ours are sewn and not adjustable. Just make sure the side straps (one near the rim) are in about the same place on both sides of the tire. Then make sure the sewn cross strap (closest to metal hooks) is as far up as it will ago. Then adjust the next crossover strap as far forward as it can go and so on. Make sure the single strap that goes into the ratchet is centered on the tire, as well as the ratchet. Also make sure the hooks do not have any play in them. If you can move them around on the bars they hook onto, then can come loose a little. Don't be surprised if the car inches a little from the front bar that stops the tire. As long as the straps are on good and tight, you are good. But if you feel getter, then by all means tighten it down and/or move the car more forward. If oyu have trouble having the tire stay at the forward cross bar, try this. While in drive or 1st gear, when the tire reaches the bar, apply the brake and then teh emergency brak. Do not take it out of gear before that as it will allow some motion after you let off the brake. Brian, it looks like those straps have a little more length between the hooks and the first cross over strap. I wish the new ones had alittle more length in that location -- we wouldn't be having a concern if they were a little longer. Maybe it's time for me to get a smaller dinghy, :)Re: Concerned over ACME Tow Dolley Straps willald wrote: Minnie_Collector wrote: Will, the placement of the straps is my major concern. I wish they were adjustable because that would solve my problem. I wonder why they changed to this new non-adjustable strap?? Ahh, I did not realize they changed the design of the straps, and that the new ones are no longer adjustable. That sucks, and pretty much blows a lot of the advice I gave you out of the water. :( You might try calling ACME, see if they can still can get the old style straps, that were adjustable. If you can get your hands on a set of those, you might be able to do better. Wbwood is probably right, though: The way you have them now, as long as you can get and keep the straps tight, will probably work OK. Oh, and to a previous poster that said the tires cannot come off the straps: Ohhh, yes they can. Been there, done that. Had it happen once, where one tire came completely out of the straps. Fortunately the straps on the other tire, as well as the beefed up, shorter chains I was uinsg still kept the car in place on the dolly. It wasn't long after that happened, that our ACME dolly was sold on Craigs list, and we went to flat towing. :) Wow, that had to be scarey when you realized that you lost a strap. We ordered an extra set when we purchased the dolley so we would be prepared, just in case.Re: Concerned over ACME Tow Dolley Straps wbwood wrote: Yes, when we first used our ACME dolly (never used a dolly before), we were having trouble with one of the straps with a little play in it. We realized it was us and we did not have it set right. We do not have 20" wheels though. BUt I would take it off, readjust and keep trying. Pay attention to the inside of the wheel. I think that is where we were having our issue. But with that said, the straps will work as you have them on there. They are there to keep the vehicle from coming off the back. The single strap that is on the front of the tire will keep it going forward. I will tell you that the straps will stretch some and they recommend stopping after about 50 miles and tightening down. We've put around 2000 miles on our towing 2 different cars. It was a learning curve on the first trip and I was nervous. I even took the car off the dolly and put it back on a couple times in the first few hours. lol wbwood wrote: Upon lookign at this picture, it looks like the 2nd strap needs to be pulled up a little higher. Then the next one wil go a little higher. Like I mentioned previously, make sure you reach in on the other side of the tire and make sure it's pull forward as well. Brian, thanks so much for all this info. Glad I'm not the only one with a mental block over these straps, LOL. Totally agree on the placement of those straps, didn't realize at first how far off that second strap was, which in turn, affects the third strap. My maiden voyage (a short one) with this dolley will definitely be nerve-racking. Oh the joys of RVing.Re: Concerned over ACME Tow Dolley Straps RJsfishin wrote: I think you worry too much. I never had no idiot sheet when I got my dolly. Seemed perdy simple to me,.....strapped it down and roared off. They can't come off. But DO retighten after 20 - 50 miles. Yes, RJsfishin, I do worry too much especially when it comes to my safety and the safety of others. Kinda a high priority for me!!Re: Concerned over ACME Tow Dolley Straps willald wrote: . . One thing I remember that was important: the straps that go across the tread of the tire, from inside to outside, need to be at the '10', '12', and '2' o'clock position on the tire. Yours are a bit too far back. Kinda hard to explain, but in order to do that, you need the side straps to be a bit longer as well. With the straps I had, you could adjust and make the side straps longer, by adjusting and pulling more 'slack' from the front strap, back over to the two side straps. Not sure how else to describe it, I think you'll just have to play around with them. Thats what I had to do. Also, 'dbates' gave you very, very good advice. Having the straps 'pull' the car forward the last inch or so, makes a huge difference in getting all the straps tight. You should try that approach, I think you'll like it better. Ultimately, we gave up on dolly towing and went to 4 down, 'cause I could never trust those straps. However, for peace of mind while we did tow with the dolly, I beefed up the chains significantly that go from the dolly to the car. Also made sure those chains were short enough that they would not let the car off the dolly even if both straps totally failed. I made dang sure that if those straps did fail, that car was NOT going to go off the dolly, no matter what. I'd recommend looking into that as well, for more peace of mind. . . Will, the placement of the straps is my major concern. The "new and improved" straps that come with the dolley now are not adjustable. The cross-straps are actually sewn to the side pieces so we cannot position them as we would like to. I wish they were adjustable because that would solve my problem. I wonder why they changed to this new non-adjustable strap?? Yes, I'm going to try the new way of loading the car so that the straps pull it forward. We did receive two safety chains as a backup safety feature for attaching the car to the dolley. I haven't messed with them yet but I'm hoping they are long enough. I had to purchase 2 one foot pieces of chain because the safety chains that go from the dolley to the MH were not long enough so I had to extend them and also had to make an extension for the power plug. Since we had to put a drop down hitch on the MH, none of the connections (power and safety chains) were long enough. Thanks for the advice, appreciate it.Re: Concerned over ACME Tow Dolley Straps Executive wrote: Be sure to read the manual completely.....:B...Dennis Dennis, Unfortunately all of the little pamphlets that came with the dolley were more warranty or parts description manuals. Totally worthless for these types of concerns. No where in the written materials, I received, were there any instructions on how to load the car or how to strap it down. If it wasn't for their video on the website, we would really be clueless since this is our first tow dolley. However, I'm still looking for that Acme manual in your picture. :W :WRe: Concerned over ACME Tow Dolley Straps westernrvparkowner wrote: Why did you choose ACME?
