Can someone recommend 4 or 5 RV parks that are decent to stay at and within a day or so drive from each other that would give me a flavor of whats available... If you are looking to be right on the ocean and/or near an attraction yes they will be booked. But there are tons of CG's all over the mid central area of Florida that have openings all year round. And they are all within an hour+ drive apart from each other You will find CG's with spots open in the mid north central area of Florida. Crystal River, Dunnellon, Ocala, Leesburg, Hommasasa, Bushnell, area, etc. "Google these towns" for CG's, you will be surprised how many CG's there are. Not right on the gulf but all within an hour to it. And about the same distance to the East Coast beaches which are really nicer. Emphasis on "google" these "towns" because you won't find them on those CG finder apps. I quickly found out I was missing out on 90% of CG's in my travels by just using CG review sites, woodalls, etc. This area is also filled with incredible Springs and rivers that are so blue they look unreal and so crystal clear you can see right down to the bottom. Plenty of things to see and do in this area also. Many of the CG's are not resorts but they are real nice CG's there are a bunch of them in this area. When I was a snowbird I 'never' made reservations. ALL the CG's usually keep one row open for 'traveling' RV'rs. I would just pull in and reserve for just one night look around and if I liked it I would extend my stay. Once you are parked they let you extend the days. And if I really liked the place I would ask if they had any cancellations. They ALL always had cancellations where all I had to do was move to that site. They loved it because they lost no income waiting for someone to reserve. Some where 2 week cancellations some for months. I've stayed in all the towns mentions above. I liked the fact that they were NOT snowbird destination CG's. Snowbird advertised CG's you will find they cram rv'ers in like sardines so they can make more money. Literately the few I did stop in there was barely one foot between MH's. This wonderful CG area is one of our best kept secrets so shh don't tell anyone about it! :C Thank you for your fantastic reply! Your reply is the kind of reply I wanted to get.Re: Looking for Recommendations pawatt wrote: If you find things too booked up come on down to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, As far south as Miami and 1\3 the cost, a bit cooler. Nearly 500 parks to choose from & reservations not required at most. We are on our 15th season and love it. Thanks for the suggestion! I'm thinking for a few more hundred mile drive that might be the place to be. I somewhat feel put off by the Florida folks like I'm not worthy.Re: Looking for Recommendations happynow wrote: At this point, you may have a big job ahead of you.Finding space during the height of the season is competitive. Many people book same site year to year. Most made reservations many months ago. You want to start making phone calls now. Cancellations happen. Many, if not all of the options that fall into your preferences are booked or almost booked.Suspect you will have more luck looking inland. Others here may have better advice. Wish you luck! I'm just looking for some recommendations of where to stay. I realize places get booked up, but people cancel everyday as well for a variety of reasons.Looking for RecommendationsAs a new retiree I'm looking to spend a couple of months in Florida from early to mid January to mid March. Can someone recommend 4 or 5 RV parks that are decent to stay at and within a day or so drive from each other that would give me a flavor of whats available. I'm not a big rig, or extravagant resort type of person, more of a state park kind of guy, but they all seem to be booked up. I really prefer the gulf coast part of the state as opposed to the Atlantic side and I really don't mind a little cooler weather, but the pan handle may be a little cooler at that time of year than I want.Re: Solar Parts listI'll add my two cents worth and say you should wire the panels in a series/parallel combination. If you read the manual for the Victron solar charge controller it states this clearly.Re: Rockwood 2109SI also have the Flagstaff 21FBRS version of the trailer a 2019. Overall I have found it to be a well designed and built trailer. I'm a bigger guy and can use the shower and bathroom with no problems. Mine came with a lot of options that give it a higher end feel like upgraded cabinets, 30 lb LP tanks, tank heaters, Torflex independent axles, slide out topper, Maxx air fan and a few other things I can't think of now. I would definitely buy the trailer again if were looking for one in this size. I compared it to several other similar models and it kept coming out on top.Re: F150 Ecoboost Stock Versus TunedI watched the TFL test of this truck tune going down hill and it whipped the engine to over 7000 RPM (way over redline) before it upshifted. No thanks.Re: Lithium 12 volt battery Is there a clear leader?I like the Zenhus 3000 Mark IV, but for the mainstream crowd it seems like Battle Born is buying the YouTubers that have RV channels. Personally if I were going with a Lithium battery I would do my research and buy a Nissan Leaf pack or a Tesla pack and make it work. Most people don't have those abilities so they buy off the shelf stuff which costs a small fortune like the Battle Born batteries. So to answer your question, most people just stick with lead acid batteries.Re: Latest on flex solar panels? One of the YouTube RV channels I follow (I'm Not Lost I'm RVing) put 8 - 100 watt Suaoki brand panels on their trailer and every one of them failed within a few months. I personally wouldn't trust them if for no other reason the lousy warranty they all seem to have. I like the fact that they are light weight and can be taped down without putting holes in the roof, but it's not worth it if they don't last.Re: Iota DLS-55-X Experience BFL13 wrote: You do a few days off grid doing 50-80s where the Iota gets close to 80 by the time it gets the batts to 14.6 and drops to 14.2 and you stop the gen. Works great. So now you go home and have days and days of shore power to do the "recovery" from that successive undercharging. To do that you need the batts to recharge at 14.8 until they are full and then some to do the overcharge for the recovery. But you can't. The batts get to around 80% and the Iota drops to 14.2v and there is nothing you can do about it. Then the voltage drops to 13.6! SG is still in the red on the hydrometer. Now what? Any hope the solar will work at home where you are parked? Any sun at that time of year? Having BTDT I got myself a converter/charger that can stay at 14.8 for as long as I want and then I can crank the voltage to 16v if need be for the overcharge to get that SG up to spec. Can't do that off grid on generator of course, takes too long. It is what you do once back home. When the SG does get to spec, then I drop the voltage to 13.x (where X depends on the temperature) for the Float till the next camping trip. I'm not sure if this is directed at me or not (the OP) but I'm not a charge the battery to perfection kind of guy. I wanted a better battery charger than I had and I wanted one that would add more to the bank off of a generator when solar fell short. My camping style will be varied as I live in the southeast and it's too **** hot here to be off grid for 5 months out of the year. I'm installing solar for my trips to the west for a couple of months a year and most importantly a 3 month trip to Alaska next summer. If I kill a battery bank in 3 years vs 10 I really don't care, I can afford it.
