Anyway, the purpose of my post is to say that I have had some very positive experiences with Randy at BestConverter over the years, and I have never heard of any complaints about their customer service here on RV.NET. I am not questioning your experience with him.... just saying maybe another call and a fresh start may go better! Hope you get your charging issues worked out.Re: New to the ForumWhat type of camper?Re: Keystone Springdale SummerlandWe have a 2013 springdale. No problems other than an incorrectly wired entry light. The springdale is an entry level trailer, so expect some light and cheap construction. We came from an older Born Free motorhome, which was very well built and solid. The springdale is made with practically paper thin materials, but you will find most, if not all, entry level trailers are of similar construction. That said, ours is layed out well, and we have not had any real problems.Re: Scared and Excited Newbie! You have several tight constraints in your specs... The tow vehicle may be insufficient for a family of four towing the trailer size you are looking for. The 6000 lb tow capacity is one thing, but you will also need to consider payload, which SUV's are usually a little light on capacity. Everything in the SUV and trailer tongue weight counts against payload, so wild guess numbers of 120 (x4) + 720 tongue = 1200 against payload assuming you attempt to tow a 6000 lb loaded trailer. Re: trailer weight and dealers - dry weight will allow a rough estimate, but loaded for travel weight is much more important. Shipping weight from manufacturer, or dry weight after batteries, LPG tanks etc can be significantly lower than an average loaded for travel weight. I have seen many add in the 1000-1500 lb range. DO NOT rely on the dealer to determine what your vehicle can tow. Lastly, a 4k price range sounds difficult for what you are looking for, but I haven't shopped for a used rig in a while. Well used trailers may require some repairs that can get expensive or time consuming if you DIY. Were I in your shoes I would come up with a trailer weight you can reasonable expect to tow based upon the TV specs and go from there.Re: Tough driveway to back intoNice job, but other than the incline it doesn't look like a real bad driveway. It always looks easier on YouTube, or from anywhere but the drivers seat though!Re: Changing oil and engine idling after long trips?Highway miles are easier on oil, as others have said. Short trips (particularly in cold weather) are the hardest on oil. I wouldn't change your oil until the normal interval. As far as idling before driving off and after stopping, 10-20 seconds is really not "idling". Idling before shutdown is solely to cool turbo, idling for warm-up is generally considered a waste of fuel, and prolonging the engine from getting up to temp. That said, I personally ensure my vehicles are somewhat warmed up prior to being placed under heavy load (towing, plowing, interstate, etc).Re: stuck on wet grassLay out planks, or other traction pads? I keep a set of cable chains in both of my trucks, which go on quickly. Perhaps a farm tractor or 4x4 truck to hook up to front tow hooks if you are a distance from a hard surface. Good luck...Re: Storing TT for winterNo worries if the fridge is not being used, and the trailer doesn't roll away! If I do nothing, my trailer is about 2" off side to side, which is generally how I leave it... with the wheels chocked on HDPE (plastic) 1"x8"x12". The HDPE is great for storage because of being maintenance free, but not so great for leveling. They are heavy, and when stacked will slide all over the place.Re: How to stay warmFeeling cold is very subjective... As others have stated, confirm your vents are all pushing hot air. Circulation is also a factor, so an oil radiant heater may not seem to work so well without air moving in the trailer. We generally use the furnace set somewhat low, and run a dehumidifier that also keeps the air moving (and drier).Re: Dealers wanting your 3/4, 1 ton RamYeah, my vehicles are apparently always in high demand also. Last year I got the same schpeale from the dealer I purchased my wife's Toyota from.... Guaranteed way to ensure I do not go back to them.
