Check out the video I just uploaded and let me know if you have interest. I'll be putting in on Craigslist very soon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXZd04puRYQ&feature=youtu.beRe: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor? Thanks again for the on topic responses I appreciate it and it is helping to get a reasonable expectation level. I want to keep the cost below 100k and more preferred is below 80k on a used coach. From what I have seen with a 36 foot or shorter a diesel coach towing 9,000- 10,000 lbs will at a minimum need the Cummins ISC (1050 ft lbs) and preferably the ISL (1200+ ft lbs) to get the job done. On the CAT engine side, the 2006-2007 Fleetwood Expedition which I have been considering with 850 ft lbs of torque is an absolute minimum. As I see here with the comments I can expect slow downs in the mountains as I have previously had in my gas coach when I was towing the smaller trailer & less weight. It sounds like I'll be back to the familiar 35-40 mph range unless I can find that elusive ISL on a smaller coach in my price range. Do you think this is a reasonable compilation of information in this case??? Weight Police types, no further comments are requested. Thank youRe: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor? Thanks for the responses. It appears most of the coaches I've been finding with the Cummins have the Cummins isb but that info it is not always initially available. It would be great to get the isl and not have to even think about it.Re: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor?Wow. Ok so back to the question at hand.Re: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor? On flat land and down hill my existing set up is pretty good. :) Unfortunately, or as i see it fortunately in three directions I am surrounded by mountains. Thanks for the replies, More examples will be of great assistance before I spend 70 or 80 grand on a 8 year old coach.Re: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor?Large horsepower and torque would be awesome. Unfortunately reality for the size of motorhome I need, it is extremely difficult. I am towing a 24 foot 2014 Haulmark Edge Pro with an 8 foot ceiling loaded with quads and a 1000 Polaris Razor. Lots of fun but getting to the destination needs to improve.Re: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor? While I appreciate your safety concerns on the f53 chassis I am and was in fact within the gcwr for the vehicle. The hitch has been rebuilt by my brother who is a fabricator including on heavy equipment and it was built stronger than what many contractors pull their backhoes with. The chassis would fail long before the hitch and load leveling brackets. Now back to the question at hand for others. What are you towing and with what?Re: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor? The only 400 I can find to fit my length requirement is in an Western Alpine 34 and they appear tough to come by...and expensive.Re: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor? Thanks Scott. Just the type of info I'm hoping to get. Do you know the percentage of grade you go up there? I'm not familiar with that area. Thanks EricRe: How much weight do you tow? and with how much motor?I checked all the chassis manufacturer numbers (ford f53) before hand and I was within the Gross combined weight rating for the coach. It wasn't scary but VERY frustrating. It is also a 1993 motorhome we've had for 10 years and use infrequently, it's time for an upgrade. Makes me concerned when I look at the GCWR for the newer coaches though and if I will have a similar outcome.
