I have driven over 90K miles on my ISB equipped Discovery loaded to 32K lbs with a 5K Jeep Grand Cherokee toad. There is no mountain in this country that I could not top. I can run 70 mph all day long pass semis up mountains with ease. Sure I have driven an ISL equipped Revolution, and yes it has slightly more power, but nothing crazy. I travel in tandem with my buddy in his Revo with the ISL. I have absolutely no problem keeping up with him. These are not meant to be race cars. They are just designed to get you from A to B. Almost all motorhomes gas or diesel will get you where you want to go. I would worry less about the size of the engine than the features that you are looking for. There are thousands of Discovery's, Phaetons, and Ventanas out there with ISBs that run all over this beautiful country without any problems getting up all the big hills west to east. I've drove them most of my adult life everyday! maybe so but the 100K on the MH itself usually means excessive use = excessive wear agree...the engine may be just broken in...but the starter, a/c compressor, alternator, fuel pump, wheel bearings, shocks, u-joints, suspension parts, etc, etc are more worn out than a rv with only 40k on it! along with Fridge, water pump, microwave, coach, lite switches.wall paper etc etc etcRe: Sweet Spot for DP Odometer Mileage 10forty2 wrote: Another thing to consider is the year model...regardless of the mileage. In the early '90s, the EPA required low sulfur diesel to be used in on-the-road vehicles. Not being designed for it, seals in the engines started going bad as a result. I don't know exactly what model year diesel manufacturers made design modifications, but I'd guess late '90s. Iam no expert but from what I have read and seen this is all pure falicy. I have heard that some put a quart of 2 stroke oil in a full tank of fuel But I see many many early 90,s DP and have not had anyone I talked to say they have or had any LS fuel related problemsRe: Sweet Spot for DP Odometer Mileage crasster wrote: I think the best thing people can do with a DP that is not being used a lot is keep it covered somehow (shelter, cover, etc.) and to drive it every two weeks. Put some fresh fuel in it once a month, even if just a gallon. Drive it (not just run it) until full warm up. covered? all MH gas or diesel fair better covered? Drive it ever 2 weeks. Rediculous Fresh fuel? diesel last,s indefinitely .just have to make sure you put anti algicide if its sitting too long(over 6 months roughly) Should be driven every 4 months or so just to keep tires from flat spotting and seals lubed up etc.I go 6 months and never had a problem everRe: Sweet Spot for DP Odometer Mileage J-Rooster wrote: 100,000 miles on a diesel engine is near new to anyone who has experience with them. NorthOrSouth wrote: The old Heart charger inverter in my 92 Monaco died. Repair guy is not sure its fixable. Wondering about saving $$ by installing a separate 3 stage charger (150) and 2500 watt inverter (180) rather than a charger/inverter (1000+)? Disadvantages? I would stay with single unit system. You can buy Brand new 2000W Xantrex 458 with 3 stage charger system for 930$ or a 2500W for 1200$Re: fuel pump and sender module tommy g wrote: Has anyone had to replace their fuel pump lately? My gauge quit working and needless to say, it's part of the pump module. It seems that this is a factory ordered part and VERY pricy($600). I'm just wondering what anyone else has had to pay for the part(no labor). When it comes to DP purchase targets the common advise from posters is: If it has too few miles, beware its lack of use. - OR - If it has too many miles (100,000+) beware the high mileage wear. So, how does one determine the mileage that is a safe buy on a Used DP? I would sooner buy a (eg) 2009 DPMH with 25K miles than one with 80K miles anyday of the week. A low mileage motorhome that is serviced and excersied correctly is going to be in a lot better shape than one used everyday and has high mileage.Re: new belts on diesel motor squeaking wolfe10 wrote: Even if the belts are the correct ones, the fact that it/they have been slipping means I would install a new one-- even if you have to pay for it. Slipping causes overheating of the rubber. how do you know they were slipping? I have installed belts for years and have had news ones sqeak even though there not slipping however if there noisy the only way to fix is most likely replaceRe: inverter / charger upgrade. bluwtr49 wrote: Xantrex is not a particularly good unit and the Magnum is a great drop in replacement with excellent customer service. I replace the one on my Patriot Thunder with a PSW Magnum and was quite pleased. Call Magnum and they can walk you through troubleshooting you existing unit and, if necessary, help you match it with a comparable Magnum. actually Xantrex are very good top quality units in my opinion and experience.
