WOOT! Glamis is a 178 mile trip from our house in north San Diego county. We left Thursday around noon and got out there around 4pm. We took i8 the whole way out and then the 115 up to the 78 and on in to Glamis. Btw the 115 is where that terrible accident was a week ago or so where all those immigrants were killed in that crash. The roadside memorial and seeing the skid marks is, well I have no words. We camp at the Canal, on the west side of it. The area is usually very quiet and our entire group has kids and babies so that's why we go there. It is maybe a 5 min ride to the dunes and just 2 minutes to the drags or Geko Road. The group usually does a kid ride in the morning and then a adult ride in the afternoon when the shadows and definition comes back. Around noon it is very hard to see what's in front of you as the sand is all the same color. My bike, a KX500 in a Honda CRF frame performed flawlessly. The wife's YZ250 had reed issues unfortunately. She did get to go on a few rides in friends buggies or side by sides so not all was lost. Looks like you had an amazing trip! It sucks about your wife's bike but at least you had friends to back you up with buggies. Thanks for sharing.Re: Boondocking Etiquette Matt_Colie wrote: So, I am guessing I was wrong to not understand that all that was wanted was a place to park overnight when he said boondock? So, if someone asks again, I will suggest the nearby highway rest area or any place else that is kind of level and he might not get chased away. That makes me wonder if there is anything else that I should try to understand the very open definition of.... Some of these people are so specific about other things like, a tow vehicle verses a towed vehicle, or a semi-trailer verses a trailer. I will just keep doing what I have been doing. Matt You keep doing what you’re doing. You do you. Most folks would just ask for clarification when approached with a Boondocking question. ??????? But hey, I’m not here to judge. Keep on keepin on.Re: Toy Hauler Trip Reports 1320Fastback wrote: Leaving for Glamis tomorrow afternoon. Will take some pics and post next week. DVNP is definitely open, no reservations needed. Most CA camping is open for reservations. And yes people are travelling in RVs all over CA. Make some reservation and bring a mask. Well, then! Party on Wayne! Party on Garth! :DRe: Boondocking EtiquetteBookdocking is any place you can drain gray water on the ground, right? Just kidding, just kidding! There are always going to be people that want to be jack wagons, it's just in their nature. Some of these terms drive me nuts but I don't say a word to people that use them...it's their prerogative (as Bobby Brown put it). Wally-docking, lot-docking, mooch-docking...basically, anything other than boondocking bugs me. But hey, you do you! I don't care.Re: Giving it upGod bless and yes, enjoy family every second you can. Good luck.Re: Have a GiggleBro! No tow vehicle required! WOO!Re: MattressesWe just use an Amazon basics 10" mattress and it is just as comfy as our bed at home. ??
