New job, but nearing retirement date. We have put our home on the market, and set up an Estate Sale person to liquidate most of our belongings, including the AVION. and, we just bought ourselves our new "home", a 1998 28-foot Coachman 5th-wheel. Like I said, lots of changes and adjustments. Learning to be a full-timer is much more complicated than I'd imagined, so I began researching where I had learned so much about our AVION, thought I'd take a look at what's been going on since last time we were online, and just say a quick "hello" and Thank You All, just one more time for all the great photos, tips, and encouraging words. Best to you and yours. Hope to see you in the parks.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosHello, all. Long time no posts. Things have certainly changed for us over the past year or so, including a different truck, moving to a new home, and a hiatus from work to get the new home in order. Now searching for a couple of years worth of work in Central Florida to be followed by more-or-less retirement(whatever that word means). As such, we have decided to pass our 1966 C-10 on to its new owners (whomever they may be). So, if you know anyone who is looking to own a beauty, have them go to: http://staugustine.craigslist.org/rvs/5224346870.html Thanks for all your help and encouragement. I'm sure we'll be in touch again. UPDATE:: Short story is, we've probably changed our minds. lol. The more we look at her, the more we can't bear the thought of letting her go. Planning to do a few repairs on the floor just inside the door today. Have to look at new tie-down rig for the new truck. Then camping in October.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosTim. Good attitude. Sit back. Enjoy the ride.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos"Tonyj54, may I ask you for the dimensions of your dinette arrangement in the front of your rig. I'm nearing the point when I must start fabricating interior forms and would like to know what the Avion factory thought were good arrangements." D1trout. Did you see the post on thread page 250? I took the measurements you asked me for previously and responded there. Did I forget something? Let me know.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photosTim. Welcome, my brother, to the wonder-filled world of the AVION owner. Yep, we all here know EXACTLY of whence you speak when we sense the disillusionment and incredulity of your writings. We've all been in your shoes at one (actually more than one) time or another, if we stayed with these beauties long enough to complete the project. And, rest assured, intrepid adventurer, we laugh not AT, but WITH, you, as we lovingly remember our own disbelief at how sometimes the workmanship slipped below the bar, or the fact that nearly every measurement of two alledgedly identical pieces of wood or trim could be so off. How no two kitchenette countertops could possibly fit "that many different ways". Or, Or, how plumbing could be routed in so many different directions on 'sister units'. Stay the course. Fight the good fight. Complete your mission, because that's what you've chosen with your AVION. A mission. Of love. We're here with you. We're here for you. Oh, yeah. One more thing. Those "blasted rectangle bit screw head" 's. They're called, believe it or not, clutch heads. We all have laughed and cried over them. Your local ACE Hardware Store, carries them, in packets of two (one of each different size...yeah, I know) for just a couple of bucks. When you get discouraged, I suggest checking out some of Garry or Dennis's travel photos. They always get me back out working on our C10 again. Carry on, oh warrior! Be of good cheer.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos66C10. Understand completely about funding the project. If you look at our photos, you'll see that ours is nearly all original, too. We repaired what we could to make her functional for the two of us, not interested in a "rebuild". If the bones are good, she'll be the "belle of the ball" at every campground you pull her into. Enjoy the ride!Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos66C10. Welcome. We also have a 66, and have loved working on it. Now, we're looking for an F-350 or -450 diesel dually service truck to serve as permanent carry-vehicle for her, to make it easier to move my gunsmithing shop with us. Enjoy the Forum, and your Avion. And never forget, we LOVE pictures here. 73's.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos D1trout wrote: Tony, please don't trouble yourself with pics! I downloaded some pics of your rig from the net sometime in the past year - not knowing it was yours, of course. I love the charming, homey red interior! All I need is the basic numbers so I can compare the factory's notions about design and layout to my own. Thanks in advance. Dick Dick. Okay, let's see if I can make some sense out of this for you.(Would you believe I did this last night at around midnight, but accidentally deleted it?! Think I fell asleep and did it.) ***NOTE: ALL MEASUREMENTS ARE +/- A BIT, ALLOWING FOR DIFFERENCES IN CONSTRUCTION QUALITY AND TECHNIQUES, SO YOURS MAY BE A HAIR OFF FROM THESE.*** Anyway. Easy part first. TABLETOP/LOWER BUNK CENTER SECTION. Ours is the original, made of 3/4" something, covered with a veneer. Flat edge is 28" wide, and length is 42" from flat edge to center of rounded end. Now, the fun stuff. FORWARD DINETTE AREA: Stove enclosure is where the PORT side begins. and SINK enclosure is the STBD side. The raised area for dinette table and fresh-water tank space is two levels, and come out flush with the cabinet areas. (I'll describe them further momentarily.) Depth of the area from REAR edges to FWD bulkhead is 45-1/2". WIDTH is 90" between side windows. SETTEES are 28-1/4" apart, allowing for TABLE/BUNK CENTER SECTION. PORT and STBD SETTEES are 30-3/4" from side bulkhead to inside edge. On either side is a 3/4" lip mounted 1" below flush with top-level, which holds the TABLE/BUNK CENTER SECTION. 6-1/2" inboard from each bulkhead, is a REMOVABLE section with a shelf attached. This section is patterned after the original, also, so it's made to fit between the cabinets to the rear and the front bulkhead just where the curve begins. The shelf you can kind of put wherever you please. Our PORT side shelf is used to hide the plumbing connecting the fresh-water tank to the city-water connection. STBD side shelf is where we keep a glass canister set, the coffee pot, and a couple of other items. When the shelf section is in place, it makes the SETTEE section measure 45-1/2" x 24-1/2". The height of the SETTEE is 13" from the top of the lower riser to the seat. There are also 9-1/2" wide storage ares inside the SETTEEs, accessed by removable panels with hand-holes. The PORT side is storage for whatever you choose. The STBD holds the BATTERY COMPARTMENT, and the fresh-water system pressurization pump. (Neither of which are currently functional, but we'll get there.) RISER SECTION: From floor, the first/rear riser comes up 7", and extends forward 32-1/2". This section is divided into two storage areas, accessed by a divided lid(which is where your feet go when you eat). Ours opens on the right-hand side, attached by a piano-hinge to the STBD SETTEE. We use ours to store whatever. The FWD-most upper riser comes up 6" above the lower, and extends to the FWD bulkhead (ours is 13-15/16"), and this is where the fresh-water tank is held. As for the DINETTE TABLE, itself. I haven't come up with a suitable/ workable way to attach the table to the FWD bulkhead, so we place the table atop a scissor-leg (X-leg)table when eating, and store it under the PORT SETTEE cushions until bedtime. I hope this will help. Let me know if I missed anything you need. Gotta go assume grandbaby watch for awhile. lol.Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos 67avion wrote: Tony, you can't make jpegs? Tried a conversion program last night, but every one came back marked CONVERSION ERROR. Dunno!Re: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos D1trout wrote: Tonyj54, I believe you have the front dinette in your rig? Could I trouble you for some dimensions of that dinette: how wide and deep is each seat, without cushions? How far apart are the front edges of the seats - the space for your legs are under the table. How high is the seat above the floor? Is there a tank under the floor? How high is that build-up? Your table dimensions. Anything else you think might be helpful. Thanks very much. I am getting near the actual interior layout and am interested in what the factory thought was a good configuration back in the day. Dick Dick Got photos and measurements, but having trouble putting photos into PhotoBucket. We don't use Microsoft anymore, and P/B doesn't accept .odg photos. Searching for a workaround.
