This is by far the best way as it keeps them out of the elements and from theft. Once in awhile when we have others with us then we use our 4 place bike rack on the rear of the fifth wheel as it has a 2" receiver. DanRe: Need advice on selling hitch and adapter cummins2014 wrote: The biggest issue is ,it's a rail mount hitch. Most now are going to a puck mount system or the Andersen style hitch . I too went with the adapter just to use my existing rail mount slider hitch , but back then the choices were very limited . I don't know, the advantage with selling the rail mount hitch is it will work in any truck with rails vs. truck specific puck systems. I could easy be wrong though. DanRe: Quad StepsAnother option is the Torklift Glostep. We have these and love them. A solid step that stores outside. I also would avoid the kind that flip inside the rig. DanRe: Need advice on selling hitch and adapterSold my 5 year old Patriot slider on Marketplace for $600 this past early spring when I went to a Patriot 18k non slider. It took a little while before the right person came along. Just have to be patient or keep dropping the price. DanRe: Getting gas with long trailer? BarneyS wrote: In over 35 years of towing a large travel trailer, i only had to back out of a station twice _ both times back into a busy street. Had no problem with my wife stopping traffic and me slowly backing up. Cars stopped and no one honked. We always gassed up or fueled up at local gas stations that had diesel fuel. Never a problem. My advice, learn to back your rig, use the outside pumps, and don’t worry about it.:) Barney Thats always my fear, having to back out of a station with our fifth wheel. I did the other day have to pull into a local station the other day with the fifth wheel which also had our kayak trailer behind it. I scoped it out first before I pulled in, hard to back out with two trailers :-( DanRe: 6.6 Chevy gas engine Busdriver wrote: The emissions problem’s with the modern diesel is a pain!Fuel cost has nothing to do with my thinking. Like any technology it takes time to perfect. They are getting better. DanRe: Impact of fuel prices on travel Thermoguy wrote: Paid $162 to fill my tank in Western WA the other day... That hurts. Ha! I got you beat, I filled up for $162.50 @ $4.89 a gallon the other day. Had to swipe the card twice because many stations have the $100 limit for whatever reason. I did see a couple of stations drop their price $.07 over the weekend though. Anyway we haven't cancelled any trips this year and we have all our reservations made. With that being said our longest trip is only 600 miles round trip and the rest are between 50-250 miles round trip. Considering the actual cost of vacation time, campsites, daytrips etc. the extra $1.50 a gallon this year is a small cost in regards to the entire trip. DanRe: RVing in 2022 bgum wrote: I highly doubt your daughter will save any money due to her changes. Have you looked at the costs for their hotels? I do think there will be a glut of campers if the fuel prices continue. You can stay at Disney's value resorts for the same or less than at Fort Wilderness plus you can save a couple travel days. I wanted to for years to pull our fifth wheel from Michigan to The Fort but could never justify the price. Depending on the season you can spend $250 a night at the Fort. DanRe: How to Find Parks?Like others have mentioned, I use Google maps. Find an area you want to go and type in 'Campgrounds" or "Rv Resorts". You may have to try a couple of different words because just typing in campgrounds may not bring up all places you can camp like some RV resorts for example and vice versa. Dan
