Both parks are very busy in the summer.Re: Camping near Flagstaff AZWe stayed at J&H also and really liked it. They had pet sitting which was great too while we went to Phoenix for the day. A little hot for a little doggie when we went.Re: Washington StateDepending on what time of the year you are traveling, there are lots of options. Our favorite is Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. If coming in the summer, reservations are a must. It's a very popular park. If you are going to eastern Washington in the summer, remember it is hot. Other than that there are too many places to name. Just decide what part of the state your want. Water, forest or desert.Re: Oregon and Washington StatesIf you plan on going to Fort Worden State Park - which you should, be sure and make a reservation. You can do so 9 months in advance. We have been the camp host there in Sept for the past 10 years or so and it is still busy through the entire month. Try to get a beach camp site. There are a lot of things to do at that park. We love it.Re: Mt Ranier NPThe problem with Washington National and State Parks are the trees and most of the campgrounds are old. If you drive around a campground in a car you might see a site and say - yes I can fit my RV there, but when you get there you might not make it through the park as others have said. Our trees up here are big and there are lots of them. ;)Re: flagstaffThis past August we stayed at the J&H RV Park and enjoyed it. They have a pot luck every week. When we were there it got rained out, but it looked like fun. It's not a big park, but a really nice clean place. They have dog walking, which was nice as we couldn't take ours with us in August to Phoenix. Ouch! There is a dog bath area too. We would stay there again. They were very friendly too.Re: KOAWe've been on the road for 3 weeks and have found the KOA's we have stayed in were well worth their money. We weren't forced to stay here. The nicest one we have found yet is the KOA in Bernalillo, NM. We will stay here from now on when we are in the area. It's too bad people are always bad mouthing KOA. If it too much for you, don't stay there. We have stayed in plenty of rv parks that were cheaper and you could tell why. It's a matter of choice. That is what is so great about rving. :)Fort Worden State Park - Port Townsend, WashingtonAs some may have found out, you couldn't make reservations at Fort Worden State Park for a few months while they switched over to the state system. Before, they had always been on their own reservation system. It is open for reservations now at parks.wa.gov You might find you want a site and it says your equipment is too big for some of the sites on the beach. Believe me, if you camp on the beach almost all sizes will fit in the sites. For some reason, the back in sites think you need a small rig. You can just pick a small size and go from there. I don't know if they are going to fix that, but I talked to the ranger and he said that is what they are telling people to do. For the past few years, reservations have been a mess. Hopefully this will fix things. We work as camphosts 4 months out of the year there. We were playing with the new site yesterday and did find that the summer is pretty booked up - especially on the weekends.Re: Is Yellowstone Pet Friendly? We just leave our dog in the RV or the car if it isn't hot. However, we sometimes find a kennel in a close by town and leave him there for a night. Makes us feel better. We haven't done that for visiting National Parks, but we did it when we rode the train in Durango, and have left him in a kennel in Williams, AZ when we go to Phoenix to visit friends when it is too hot. Most places you can leave the dog for the day, but we have left overnight too.Re: Need RV Park Near San Francisco in AugustWhen our daughter lived in SF, we stayed at the KOA in Petaluma. It was not a bad drive in and out of town. We did have to cross the Golden Gate bridge everyday. We have a little dog that we didn't want to leave in the RV while we were gone, so we left him in a great kennel close by.
