All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Don't buy a Thor productI purchased a 2017 Forest River last April and it was in the shop 115 days last year with issues ranging from a major water leak on the roof (water pouring down from the upper bunk all over the cab), massive condensation inside (which caused the downpour), a generator that would never run, and other various repairs. I swore I would never buy another Forest River, but now that everything is fixed it's running perfectly and given us a couple of months worth of good camping. It was very frustrating and I contacted a lemon law lawyer and was told as long as the dealership and manufacturer are trying their best to correct the issue - you have to put up with the coach and live through the pain of making payments and not using the thing. I've learned through this experience to find a good dealership with an honest service representative and ask them what is the brand they see the most and what issues/returns they have and go from there. I think my next one will be used and probably either Newmar or Tiffin at this point based upon reviews and recommendations from various people.Re: Make Crib Out of Bottom BunkI once saw on pintrest an interesting setup using pvc pipe - they used 1/2 inch pvc and anchored it at both ends by drilling through the pipe and into the trailers structural material. The also painted it to match the décor so it didn't look so obvious. You might want to search on pintrest there are some wonderful ideas that are really cheap.Re: Ever get "The Look"?My family went the avenue of most people - tented, then pop-up, hybrid, and now fifth wheel. We enjoyed the journey, the DW finally got tired of hearing the noise (mainly the diesel engines) outside the hybrid and the kids got larger and we outgrew it so she upgraded us to our current 5er. Now with the grandkids getting big enough to really enjoy the experience she wants to upgrade to something with bunks so they can have their own place inside.Re: Best RV WaxI was a Collonite fan but changed to McGuires flagship marine wax last year - easier to put on and wipe off and seems to last longer. Almost the same price at the marine store.Re: Camping in FLI was born in Tampa and raised/live in Seffner which is between Lakeland and Tampa. My family lives in Zephyrhills, Lakeland, and Plant City. We camp all year long, mainly at state parks around the state - yeah it's a pain to get reservations but planning 6 months ahead helps with my work schedule. Most of the state parks save a couple of spots for last minute walk-ups. I also have a Thousand Trails membership and use it for last minute jump into the trailer trips - the closest is 45 minutes away and just outside of Orlando. I won't lie, your first year here will be hot but you will get used to it and start enjoying the empty summer campgrounds because it's too hot for the other transplants. I find it harder to camp in the winter due to the influx of snowbirds. I pay 80 dollars a month for non-covered storage in Tampa, but it's close to the house and the owner stays on the property so I have that false sense of security - I just started to cover my trailer this summer. Lakeland is a good place to live, they have a minor league baseball team that is good/cheap to watch and the city does more small town stuff and you are close to both Tampa and Orlando for the large city stuff. Good Luck...Re: Pups vs HybridsI've owned both - PUP was great when the family and I were young. Negative side of PUP was always lack of storage and having to open and close it when you prepared to go, get back, and anytime you needed something that was left in it by mistake. My wife never liked the cassette toilet so I took it out. I had an older Rockwood high side; the lift mechanism finally died so we traded to a small hybrid and enjoyed the ability to sleep on the couch while closed if we needed to and a bathroom we could somewhat use (shower was too small). We finally moved to a 5th wheel two years ago to get away from the canvas, the noise, and the need for more space for the grandson to travel with us. The hybrid was nice to set up quickly, space when it rained, and a real toilet to use. I don't really miss the PUP.Re: RVing with a newbornTook grandson when he was a month old, but in a fifth wheel there really isn't any difference than being at home. He's now 6 months old and been on 6 trips so far and loves it. I will have to figure out how to secure the screen door now that he is starting to crawl or buy a kiddie fence.Re: Blue/Grey Tote usageYou might want to check local ordnances/campground rules before using it for black. Most of the campgrounds that I have stayed in have strict rules on using the honey buckets on wheels for black.Re: question about cold weather in FloridaI'm just outside of Tampa - when I'm not using my 5th wheel during the winter I drain the system but have never winterized it. The weather never stays cold enough very long here so I have never had a problem.Re: Military/DoD Are you active duty, retired or a veteran?24 years Air Force
