They give a great value and there's no better ride out there. Keep in mind when buying used, tires, batteries, slide covers and awnings. These can add up very quickly. The tires time out at 7 years even thought they still look great and it's real easy to spend $6k on tires. House and chassis batteries are going to be around $3kRe: Used DP what to look for?Depending on your budget and what you're going to be using the MH for, there are some great deals out there. Recently I saw an old Foretravel without slides that was a heck of a deal. If I were looking for something, I'd be looking at the older well built coaches that had some miles on it rather than the low mileage units that are rotting. Too many of the "entry" level DP don't age well if they aren't constantly maintainedRe: Cummins ISL Oil recommendationAll I use is Shell Rottella. Once the diesel is broke in I'll switch to the synthetic version which I believe is called "T6". Unfortunately most motor homes sit too long and all the oil film is drained from the bearings. This causes a dry start until the oil pump starts pumping oil. With synthetic oil, the film stays much longer and protects the surfaces better. I save enough money changing my own oil to justify the added expense of the synthetic oil. JmoRe: Build quality gas vs DPI biggest problem with build quality is weight. The diesel pushers for the most part are built to carry more weight and therefore more is put into them for structure strength. The Foretravel, as was mentioned earlier is very heavy and very well built. Several little differences like hollow core doors in a gas MH or solid core doors in a diesel. These differences all add up to a much quieter coach.Re: 40 ft compared to 45 ftDon't let the extra length worry you. I have a 43 ft and I can turn it sharper than i could a 5th wheel. VERY easy to drive and park even in smaller state parks.Re: Good Sam RV loans.. good, bad or the same as the othersWhen I bought my Entegra I went to my local banker and checked with him. I was able to buy this coach with no money down for a 15 year loan at the same interest rate that Good Sams offered. The interest rate is re-adjusted at the 7 year mark. I would recommend everyone shopping the local banks first.Re: "Trailer Porn" - Atlantic City RV Show! When I was a young man I couldn't keep my eyes off of women..... Now I can't keep my eyes off of RVs......not sure which costs me more money though ;)Re: Cleaning Windshield and Front CapEveryday I use a little Giant folding ladder, a small bucket of hot water with a VERY small amount of liquid laundry soap. I use a simple bug scrubber and the water to wash the bugs off and then a large squeegee to wipe dry. No rinsing is required. The 16 inch squeegee was bought at Lowes for $9 and is the best tool. I do all of this in about 10 minutes.Re: Hung Walls ?I've had both types of walls over the years and I wouldn't go back to a laminated wall. There's a reason why the entry level units have laminated walls....they're cheap to produce. Yes the manufactures will show a truck driving over a section of laminated wall to show the strength but ideally you don't have trucks driving over your walls. Funny, these same manufactures never show a truck driving over the floors...why? The floors (frames) go through more stress over years of travel. Most hung walls have better interior backing so hanging pictures or finding backing for shades or other items is much easier. The most important part of the RV isn't the wall anyway....in my opinion it's the frame and suspensions that the walls connect to. Frames tend to flex not the walls. Usually when the manufactures are focusing your attention on the walls it's because they're diverting your attention from more important items.Re: Experimenting with the though of a Class A...I've had 5th wheels and travel trailers and I don't believe there's a better way for a family to travel than in a MH. There are several great MH out there that could fit your needs. I would look at some of the older high quality rigs that have been used on a regular basis. Don't go for low mileage because lack of use is a cancer to a diesel. Also since you have some young one traveling with you, I would suggest a dinette instead of a free standing table. That way the young ones can safely sit at the table while on the road. I wish you miles of safe travels and happiness
