I knew there was a reason I do not frequent this site much. Others have had similar experiences here. Mods, please delete.Re: How do you share camping expenses? We did pay. We are half-sisters and not that close. She is too verbally abusive. We did show her an awesome time: Oregon Coast, Highway 138 waterfalls, John Day area, Newberry, Smith Rock, etc. I wasn’t asking about the past. That is done. I am asking what people do when camping with others when sharing a site if there is adequate space. Lesson learned for sure. How do you share camping expenses? My husband and I invited my sister to go on a 2-3 week camping trip with us. We have been to many of the places she and I planned to visit but I thought it would help her readjust to being back home in the PNW. Well, I was distracted about water issues and running a small business so shined on her proposals. Besides, she yells at me and I take the path of least resistance. Somehow, I agreed to have us pay for a site and she would pay the extra car fee. Yeah, I know, stupid. Her reasoning was that we have a full-sized truck and a pop up truck camper and she has a small SUV plus tent. Essentially, we have a similar footprint. I should have nipped that proposal right away but, I was distracted. Toward the end of the trip, I tallied up the costs and whoa, there, we were paying 3 times as much. When I mentioned this to her, she blew up and threw money at me. She has been cold and distant since. My take is that you pay for the site, and it is not based on the size of your RV. If a class A or a 5er or trailer can occupy a standard site (no hookups), they pay the same as anyone else. I have never really thought about the fair or unfair aspects. We are all camping no matter the size or type of RV. Needless to say, there will be no more camping trips with her. I have learned to say no, now, more often than I used to. What do you all do when faced with this situation?Re: Dark Sky Camping Yosemite Sam1 wrote: Where are you? The darkest part of the US is the Massacre Rim in the Nevada-CA-Oregon border. Never been there but the write up says, it is so dark that the dense starlight can cast a shadow. We were there last Spring. We travelled on 8A, a decent gravel road that bisects Sheldon Antelope Range. We were the only ones there. It took us several hours from where we left 140 until we came to a paved road just east of California border. We did encounter a road grader just before pavement. Very isolated but beautiful. We should hav3 spent the night but it had been raining so the skies would have been obscured.Re: 2019 SummerWe plan to stay home as we live in the Pacific Northwest on 6 acres. We travel during the shoulder seasons. Happy camping.Re: where to find ideal summer climate in USA? profdant139 wrote: The mosquitoes weren't too bad in late summer, and the bears weren't grizzlies. (They ran away when we made noise.) Yes, they were black bears but grizzlies will be reintroduced into the North Cascades probably in a more remote area than where you were.Re: where to find ideal summer climate in USA? profdant139 wrote: And don't forget that this is berry season in Western Washington -- tons of huge delicious blackberries everywhere, like weeds. (Bring leather gloves for the thorns.) Huckleberries and wild mountain blueberries at the higher elevations. Bring a small plastic bag to sit on -- otherwise the seat of your pants will look like this: Click For Full-Size Image. I am pretty sure (but not positive) that that is Mt. Shuksan in the background; we were in the Mt. Baker area when this shot was taken. Yes, that is Mt. Shuksan. There will be mosquitos and bears.Re: Torklift stepsWe have the Tork Lift Go and Glo Steps for our pop up truck camper. Because our truck is a 4x4 and has big tires, our older steps were wobbly due to length. We also boon dock and often camp on uneven terrain so the adjustable feet are very helpful. Sturdy, well made and thoughtful design. No wobble and the glo feature helps at night. They are attached to the rear platform step and all we have to do is lift, allow to fold down, and attach connectors. They also work as a theft deterrent as DH added a cable and lock. It also keeps door from flying open if we didnt secure it properly (lock should be replaced). We really love ours.Re: Newbie Full time in VanI think that parking in the 24 hour gym is a giod idea as long as property owner is okay with it. Ditto, any other business as it may act as a theft deterrent for business owners. As far as stealth camping in a residential neighborhood? We spent the night at my sisters place in our camper on the street as her driveway is steep and other beds in her home were occupied. I dont like the idea of continual parking in neighborhoods as in some cities as far as some people were dumping their black tanks and dumping garbage. These folks sound like professionals and a night of stealth camping in my neighborhood wouldn’t bother me but probably would my neighbors. Best of luck to you.Re: Washington state hwy 20 from Okanagan to Mt VernonStop at Diablo Lake Overlook for bathroom break and a beautiful view plus kiosks about geography, geology and history. Easy access westbound. Just watch for folks cruising westbound when exiting. Rockport is another rest stop plus trees are amazing. You can park there for 15 minutes without Washington state parks pass. I, too, wish we could still camp there. In the soring, native dogwoods are in bloom; early fall, the vine leaf maple are colorful.
