Wife was a software engineer in Silicon Valley, we moved to a remote area with no internet, so went with satellite internet service and it works great anywhere, the issue is speed needed and data allowance, but if your company is paying for it data usage isn't a issue. However if you need to stream a lot of data fast it can become a problem with satellite, some companies won't allow remote workers to use satellite.Re: Every regret your small TT?We kind of went the other way, went from motorcycle tent camping to a 28 ft travel trailer. We would have been just fine with a smaller trailer. Sales people said our 1/2 ton truck would be just fine, wrong, we live in the Sierra mountains with lots of hills. So you guessed it that meant a new truck. This has been our first year of enjoying the RV life and we really love it, but I do miss the motorcycle tent camping, but wife doesn't.Re: Keystone - never againWhy did I go to a DOT officer, well I have worked with them for years, mainly on over the road trucks. No they would never normally inspect a RV unless it was a blatant visible violation. I could not get Keystone or the dealer to deal with the tires, now I can replace the tires and take them to court for the cost because I have a legal document (ticket) proving the tires should not have been put on that trailer. The tires are rated for 1500 pounds, the trailer gvw is 7700, do the math. I also have a equalizing hitch that transfers some of the tongue weight back on the trailer axles.Re: Keystone - never againI deducted the trailer tongue weight, and it is still off by a thousand pounds. Not only that you must consider with a multi axle trailer there are times when one axle or the other is carrying more of the load, that is generally momentary. As for the ticket, I asked the CHP to issue the ticket, I wanted proof that the tires weren't adequate to carry the GVW. Reality is they are suppose to carry GVW plus 5%. The guy that gave me the walk through took about twenty minutes with me, hardly spoke English and after reading the owners manual he gave me some really bad advice. When I purchased this thing, they told me they would make the repairs before I picked it up, when I picked it up they said the parts hadn't come in yet. We had a trip planned to we accepted it, our mistake. Screws holding cabinet door on are too short.Keystone - never againNew 2017 Keystone trailer, on trip of 600 miles. Cabinet door hinges falling off, dealer never flushed antifreeze from system, Water heater won't work on propane, water pump wouldn't work was sucking air. Dealer adjust electric brake controller wrong, repaired myself. Door to bedroom opens the wrong way and hits bed blocking access to bedroom. But the WORST thing is tires are not rated for gvw of the trailer, they over 1000 pounds under, and they are junk tires. Dealer said I needed to get authorization from Keystone to replace, Keystone said I needed to go to dealer. I'm a retired truck technician, so I took it down to my local CHP office and the DOT guy says, ya, tires aren't right, I tell him to give me a ticket for it. Now dealer tells me it will be a couple months before they can get everything done, ticket says I need it corrected in two weeks, that is unacceptable, next step is a lawyer to see if I can get dealer to take this thing back. I ended up fixing the water pump myself. I have never seen such terrible workmanship in anything.Re: Food & TravelingThanks for the response, not much different than where we live. Our nearest grocery store is 45 miles away, I shop once a week now. Thanks for all the good advice.Re: Brake adjustment questions in the real world I'm curious, why would bearings go bad quickly if a trailer sits for 2-3 months? Never heard of that before. I think what he is referring to is called berneling where a bearing develops flat spots. This happened a lot back in the 70 when cars were shipped on trains. I don't believe it is much of a problem today. I'm a retired truck tech and I haven't seen it in a long time. Now cheap bearing may still have problems. Easiest way to make sure is to jack the wheels off the ground if the RV isn't going to be moved for a while, also keeps tires from developing flat spots.Re: Food & TravelingThanks for your responses, we misunderstood about refrigerator use while traveling, good news, and you all were a great help, this is a big learning process for us. BB_TX, good idea to pre-cool. I think husband has a little fear of propane, he has seen some propane fires.Re: advice on taking German Shepherd camping in TT with kids?We are German Shepherd owners and trainers. Shepherds are very smart and adapt easily to new environments, but they must be trained, and trained well or they can drive you nuts. They need a purpose and if you don't give them one, they will create one, and you may not like what they create. Your Shepherd is still too young to have developed his protective instincts. Do you know what level Shepherd you have? If he is a level one, you shouldn't have many problems, if he is a three or four I wouldn't take him camping until well trained and at least two years old.Food & TravelingOk, we are brand new to the RV world, and camping. How do you plan your food purchases, how much, dos and don'ts. I guess frozen is out of the question since we can't travel with refrigerator on.
