The Solitude's unloaded weight is 13,200 and pin weight is 2750. The Montana's unloaded weight is 13,420 and pin weight is 2885. The TV payload is 3927 and max tow weight is 17,200.Re: 5th Wheel Qustions Itching2go wrote: WTP-GC wrote: Itching2go wrote: I tow a 40 foot Grand Design Solitude with a dry pin weight of 12,300 lbs with a Chevy 3500 SRW Duramax. Man that chevy is a beast! I didn't know GD was putting out those kind of pin weights these days ;) Well, not that much of a beast. And I can't even blame autocorrect for that one. :S So what is your pin weight?Re: 5th Wheel Qustions philh wrote: wtilley51 wrote: Thanks for your reply. The TV specs state 17,200 as max FW trailer weight and 3927 cargo weight. FW is close but I believe TV manufacturer uses the 80% rule when publishing specs. 80% rule??? OEM's test their vehicles to the rated capacity. It is probably not a "rule" rather a practice. If I were building truck, I would test it to 100% of capacity but for safety reasons would publish a capacity somewhat less the 100%, say 80% to 90%. That leaves a built-in margin of safety.Re: 5th Wheel Qustions phillyg wrote: We looked at GD before buying a MT. Both, I believe, are comparable in quality and price. DW didn't like any of the GD floorplans, so...... By MT do you mean Montana?Re: 5th Wheel Qustions DutchmenSport wrote: Check access for everything with slides in. We are looking at a Grand Design Solitude 377MBS and a Keystone Montana 3950BR. I plan on towing with a GM 3500 SRW with Duramax. Would like to hear some opinions about my plan.Re: traveling to MaineI travel from Salisbury, MD to Bangor Maine all the time. For you, 95 to NJ Turnpike, GW Bridge, Cross Bronx Expressway (95) and stay on 95 until 91 at New Haven, CT. North on 91 until exit 29, keep close eye for it because the traffic builds up there to get on 84 North. 84 North to Mass Pike (90) to 495 to 95 again into NH and Maine. Timing through New York city with a TT is everything. Cheapest gas along that route in on the NJ Turnpike so I usually fuel at the Vince Lombardi Service area, the last one in NJ. Don't buy fuel in CT. You can go around NY City and cross on the Tappan Zee. I used to but not anymore, just as easy straight through, again depending on timing. Enjoy your trip. Where are you planning going in Maine?Re: leak around tv antenna on roofI had a leak from the antenna and it was the coax cable boot had slid up the cable. Simply push it back down, leak stopped. Hope this helps.Re: '05 Suburban 8.1L vs. 3/4 ton as dedicated TVIf the Suburban has an 8.1, it is a 2500 series or 3/4 ton. I have a 2004 and it has a max tow capacity of 12,000 and max tongue weight of 1400. My TT gross weight is 9400 but it normally weighs in at around 8300. I have absolutely no issues towing that trailer. Went up the western front of the Rockies at 55 and down the eastern front without touching the brakes at 45-50, sometimes even slower.
