Thanks for this info as I failed to make any reservations for this summer before the state park campgrounds all filled up 6 months out.Re: Road Recommended by Good Sam and Completely UnpassableI'm not surprised the OP hasn't been back after some of the replies he received here. Check out his thread on another RV forum and you'll see that he received a much different reception and addressed his initial confusion in describing the route. He also took full responsibility for his mistake, posting in the hopes that others could learn from his errors.Re: Reading the tea leaves: a new era for public lands?Thank you Profdant139 for a thoughtful post! Because I like to take my Jeep onto our public lands and I drive a MH, I've felt that my choices have more frequently been frowned on by others that enjoy a different perspective. My best guess for what the immediate future holds is that there will be a lessening of the restrictions put on my (our) ability to enjoy our parks and public lands in the manner that I'm able to handle as I age. I'd expect and hope there to be a slow-down in the naming of wilderness areas that exclude all motorized access. As to user fees increasing, I think this is inevitable. I feel guilty using my Senior Pass to enter the national parks, unless I'm just driving through. I feel like I should pay my fair share to enjoy the parks' beauty and amenities. I'll probably get over that view as soon as I'm on a fixed income though!Re: What do you tow 4 down?2006 Mazda Miata manual transmission = approx. 2600 pounds.Re: Colorado in early OctoberIf your itinerary allows, stop in Salida, CO for a visit to Woods Distillery (Very good barrel rested gin) and Elevation Beer Company. The Four Seasons RV park on US 50 is right on the Arkansas River. Site R17 is the best, although all of the river sites are good. We recently stayed in site R6 and you could not walk past the rear slide without falling in the river. :)Re: Motorhome Crash 5/11/2015FWIW concerning the speed factor - Given that there's 40 feet for each dashed line and space on the lane divider, and I counted roughly 26 dashes passed in 11 seconds from the start of the clip until the MH veers, I estimate that the truck was doing very close to 65 mph.Re: Newbie checking inThanks for the welcome. Sorry I bypassed Vermont, although my GPS kept trying to route me there.Newbie checking inNew member from Colorado checking in. My wife and I bought our 2015 Winnebago View Profile one month ago. It still has the temp tags, but due to an unexpected trip to from Denver to Maine, it now has 6000 miles on it - and we leave for WA State on Friday! My initial observations are that it is really easy to drive - I felt less fatigue than when driving a car. I logged over 4500 miles in just 6 days of driving, but never felt like I was pushing it too far. It was relaxing driving just under the speed limit, and I was able to drive farther because of it. The Allstays iPad app was extremely helpful as I used it to find Walmarts and campgrounds. I stopped overnight at a mix of Walmarts, rest stops, and a campground (when it was 96 degrees out I wanted A/C!). The Fuel Monitor app was also very helpful. The difference in fuel use between 65 mph and 70 mph was about 2 mpg. I averaged 15 mpg for the trip, with the best tank being 18 mpg with a tail wind. I chose to go through Canada on the way to Maine as there's a direct route from Detroit to Northern Maine through Ontario and Quebec. Roads in Canada were very good and I avoided a lot of tolls that way. Border crossings were no problem, especially into Canada. Into Canada they wanted to know if I had any guns on board; said it was okay, they just needed to know. Into the US, they wanted to look in cabinets, etc., and seemed very curious about why I would go through Canada. Finally, US Route 36 through Kansas is a great escape from freeway driving. It is the most direct route between Indianapolis and Denver, if not the fastest. I plan to drive it again but spend more time exploring on the way. Enough about me. I'll close by saying that I've already got a lot of info out of this forum and hope to learn a lot from it in the future.
