The problem with jacking the frame (assuming you find a structurally sufficient point) is you might lift 6inches and the tire stays in place as the springs extend. This is where the old jeep jacks were handy for off road but they had a bumper you could jack against. As far as jack stands, that's for longer term situations. If you are going to leave it up overnight, jack stands make sense. The time it takes you to crawl under and place the jack stands is going to be longer than shoving a board under and put you at more risk. Re: Shocks for tow vehicle How has it handled the load before they wore out? If it did a good job, I wouldn't fix what isn't broke...just get ones with the same ratings. Re: Internet Weekending in areas with cell coverage...cell phone with mobile hotspot. Weekending in areas without cell coverage...try to download what you need ahead of time. Long term over a wide range of areas...starlink has become the goto. Hard to justify for short term use as it's pricey to buy the equipment and pricey for the monthly plan. If you happen to have starlink for your home, then it's not so bad to upgrade to the mobile plan. Re: Where to find a property up North for Sunbirds / reverse snowbirds? I'm a bit confused what you are asking for. Assuming it's setting up a campsite on private property, the biggest challenge is likely to be zoning. After that, basic utilities (water/power/sewer). Many places won't let you do it at all and others have a lot of permitting. Re: What’s Your Favorite Community Board and Why? The transition to the new format gutted the participation by cutting members off if they didn't go thru the clunky renewal of id and password. I still check it every few days but I used to check almost daily but there is just less of interest and I've mostly transitioned to facebook. I'd suggest reaching out to the members who have dropped out with preset id/password that matches their old id/password and ease up on the security checks...this site doesn't contain a lot of critical private info that needs top of the line bank account type security. Re: Tire temps on dual axel TT Swing by a CAT scale. The first weigh is like $12-15 but you can reweigh for $2-3. Once you have the standard weights (each truck axle separate and the trailer axles together), do a 2nd where each trailer axle is on a different pad. The spec tongue weight presumes an empty trailer, so it doesn't tell you much about how the axle weights are distributed. Assuming the trailer is level, the tongue weight won't have much if any impact on the axle split. Re: Alternative satellite option? I presume most people looking at satellite are likely full time (or at least long time) travelers. Much different from weekenders looking to get away for a couple days. OTA is not a good option since they went digital. If you are out of cell coverage, good chance you get no signals and even if you do, the selection of shows is really bad...as you indicated. Re: Alternative satellite option? If your camping is almost exclusively in areas with cell coverage that can work....but even in areas just outside built up areas, it's not uncommon to have dead zones. Re: Alternative satellite option? There's Starlink and Hughsnet if cell coverage won't work. I've yet to hear anyone recommend Hughsnet and the one friend who had it found it much more finicky to set up. A side concern is they are losing subscribers rapidly, so there is the open question if they will be around in a year or two. Re: Establishing Domicile with a deeded lot questions With no state income tax, Florida doesn't really care. They'll still probably get you for registration and a few misc fees but it's not something they pursue. Lots of people use Florida mail forwarding services as an address with no issues. The issue is does your former domicile agree that you have moved: If California is looking at a $30,000 income tax bill and you have no links to Florida other than a $5,000 piece of swamp land, there is a good chance will tell you to pay up and it's guilty until proven innocent. Doubly so if you actually spend several months of the year in California. If this is a lot in an RV park, you have receipts, your drivers license is Florida, Florida utility bills, Florida phone, Florida doctors and other documentation that you spent a large percentage of the year in Florida with minimal time in California...California will likely back down. Unfortunately, there isn't a simple do X, Y & Z and you have indisputably changed your domicile. It's more a preponderance of the evidence. For regular folks who sell the house in the old state, buy a house in the new state and everything in their lives transfers to the new state, it's so overwhelming that it's not an issue and usually, the old state won't pursue it. For full time RV'ers who may spend a minimal amount of time in the new state and may return for extended periods to the old state, it can get sketchy and high tax states have a tendency to take a guilty until proven innocent stance, so you want to make sure it's clear cut that you moved and can provide supporting documetation.
