Was strongly considering a trip to the Black Hills, but dexides to wait due to major road construction kicking off there this spring. Truck bed cargo I remember following a thread years ago on RV.net about what stuff folks haul in their truck bed while towing their TT. It was kind of interesting to read the array of things, toys, tools, and stuff. There were even a few who towed with nothing in their truck bed. I'll kick it off with my list: Tongue jack pad Canvas bag for WDH bars and rubber chocks Tire bin (12v compressor & accessories, plug kit, torque wrench, lug sockets) Drill bag Small padded.Pelican case for TPMS & camera monitors Tool box for towing/setup (too many doo-dads to list) Small Weber grill Grilling bin (grilling stuff) Tackle bag, fishing poles 2 coolers Re: Need ideas for stabilizer jack pads. 2"x6" boards, 4 layers, 2" webbing for handle. I believe the first set of these I built lasted almost 14 years. Weight is under 14 lbs. Re: Trip planning /mapping sites...... recommendations I use Google maps to scout possivle routes, distances, etc. and then mine info on CGs from multiple sources (RV Life, Dyrt, Campspot, etc). It's definitely not a single, turnkey approach, but it works and the price is right. Re: De winterize in Massachusetts or wait for warmer weather in the south I'm in Iowa and anytime we do a spring break trip (DW is still teaching 6th grade), it is always early March. We just pack, go, and I dewinterize at our first stop. Now my winterization is 15 psi blowing, draining everything and some antifreeze only in P-traps, so getting things all back in service is pretty quick and really there is no flushing of lines needed. Other than closing faucets, capping low point drains, throwing bypass valve and installing the water heater plug, its normal setup at the first overnight. Coming home, I don't gamble, so I winterize it at our last overnight (blow, drain, antifreeze in P-traps). Re: 31 below zero, RV antifreeze failed? Once you drain and blow things out, you will probably want to put some antifreeze down drains to protect from freezing of the water in P-traps (won't drain or blow out). Re: Monitor mount. I use a suction cup mount for mine, tucked right in next to the rearview mirror (covers up the left third of the mirror). Re: Snowstorm = project time Tongue jack pad weighs 13 lbs. Stabilizer pads weigh 3.5 lbs. Very acceptable numbers for the durability. Re: Snowstorm = project time I haven't weighed them. I will do so and post the results here. Re: Front end bounces horribly when going over 55 mph I'd agree. Lose enough weight off the front axle and it will definitely impact the steering geometry and make for a very squirrelly ride.
