Good morning everyone. Winter is still here. I know the first day of spring has come and gone, but someone has forgotten to tell Mother Nature. We still have days in the forecast with highs in the 40's. I will be glad to see warm days in the 70's as a regular happening.
I was thinking of a good friend who lived in Aiken, South Carolina named Jim Moates. He owned and operated the Gun Rack for years and was a great guy. He and I traveled a lot to different gun shows and bought many antique shotguns. I once bought a Parker 20 gauge shotgun with two sets of barrels in a beautiful wooden case. Jim was amazed at the perfect condition it was in. Being the person he was he started digging into the background of the gun using the serial number and found out the gun was not an A-! special but a standard grade that had been refinished and the extra set of barrels were made and added to the gun years later. This made my gun worthless as a fake reproduction. I learned a lesson from that and never bought another antique shotgun unless Jim was with me. Years later I bought a William Evans at an estate sale for $25.00 that turned into a treasure.
Our home is adjusting to the loss of Izzie, but we are also content that there was no doubt that his time had come. I have always regretted putting Mama down when I did. Years later I still feel she had a few more weeks or perhaps a month or two before she was ready. I really miss her a lot. Hobo I know was in pain and was having a hard time getting around. Peaches had dementia, and had lost her hearing, mostly blind and was cripple. It is so hard to face these days as we make such heart wrenching decisions. Anyway what's done is done and we must push ahead as we face each day and not look back trying to figure if something else could have been done to help our fur babies hang on to another day with us.
I hope all is well with everyone and I hope you have a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.
