I don't understand how they could have sold it without the title!! If I were the buyer, I would throw a bigger fit than the guy had thrown when he found they had sold his.

Somebody should definitely be out of a job on this one!!

The owner has every right to report it stolen. It is, in fact, no longer in his possession.

I kind of had that happen back in 1985, when I bought a 1983 Bronco USED off the lot and had to bring it back. Seems it was sold to someone else the day before but not going to be picked up for a couple of days so was setting there waiting for me. I bought it paid cash, and drove it home and to work the next morning. That afternoon they called and I had to bring it back...(yes I called a lawyer) he said human error, take it back and see if they can make a deal with you on something better.... well I took it back and they gave me a brand new 1985 Bronco to replace it and for my trouble for the same price I had just paid.... that was sweat.

Heck of a profit margin for the dealer :)

Please tell us who the dealer is. While infuriating for the people involved I kind of got a chuckle out of the thought. I can see the negotiation now, "And it comes with all the gear furnished for no extra charge".

Come on now, you really expect folks to believe this story? Present a few more facts and just maybe you have a real story. Who, what, when, how, why would be helpful.

Makes you wonder how the dealer proved he held the title to it so he could transfer it to the "new" buyer.

It's a stretch, but I can see a chance of the prep people bringing the wrong unit up for pickup by the new buyer. Particularly if they have similar new units in stock and no one checked the numbers. The unit in for service might have been a new one in for warranty repairs that hadn't been stocked up with personal items yet.

I once bought a custom van. Picked it up a few days later. Dealer gave me a voucher for a full tank of gas. I filled it up and started home. I kept looking at interior and it just did not look quite as I remembered it. Finally pulled off the highway and checked the VIN number versus the sales paperwork. They did not match. Turned around went back to dealer. They had another van, mine, with identical paint on outside and slightly different interior.

Needless to say they were very embarrassed. I got my van and another tank of gas and was on my way! As the expression goes ---- hppens!
