We had them too. When we got to teenage years we nailed the skates to a board and made a skate board before they were popular and commercially available. We used that until the metal wheels were used up and we got interested in cars.
Ditto on that. Pulled them apart and nailed to a 2x4 and then nailed an orange crate to the 2x4 and put two pieces of 1x2 on top of the crate, these were our handles. It was a real blast where I grew up in San Francisco with all the hills in the area.
