Be careful taking your pets to Petsmart. There is a lot of info on groomers injuring dogs. More than just incidental. Many of the groomers are not licensed and some seem to take out their frustration on the animals. There was a movement started by a man whose dog was strangled during grooming. As a result more people have chimed in with their experiences. It is really bad.

Licensing of groomers is a state policy, many states don't. Some corporations (PetSmart/Banfield) have their own licensing "program" so they can say that their groomers are licensed, but what does that mean??? I don't know their training program. I suppose they could have a dvd training session with a few answers on a test after watching that, then produced a licensed groomer.
The best method to find a groomer is word of mouth and previous experiences.
BTW, we stopped doing grooming (except for medically necessary) due to being unable to consistently employ a qualified groomer.
