Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful morning here in the Deep South. So many homeless dogs and cats. I read every day where one has been left along side of the road or at a dumpster. On FB over the weekend there was a man who came across a young dog on the river bank. He was in a kayak so he drifted over to the bank and gave the dog some of his lunch he had packed for the trip. When he left the dog dove into the river and followed him swimming along side the kayak. He finally put the dog in the boat with him and she settled down into his lap for the rest of the day. I sent him a message if he needed to find a home for her let me know. He sent a message back he had a friend that took her in and would give her a forever home.
I think of our of Dixie who was left behind in a house when the couple moved and split up, neither one wanted to keep Dixie so they left her in the rental house for three days until the landlord found her when they went over to check on the property. We went over and to see if we could help and it was love at first sight.
Suzie and her sisters Anna, Dixie and Savannah as you remember were left at a dumpster in the summer heat with no food or water. Mrs. Barns called and told me about the puppies and the rest is history as this was the start of Old Fella's rescue.
Sue and I are going to Modoc next week, most likely it will be our last visit to the campground that has so many beautiful memories for us. I will walk the Old Fella Trail that connects two sections of the campground together. It was this path he walked searching for food and friendly children that would give him attention. He was shy of adults, but he loved the children.
There was a couple named Bonnie and Clyde that stayed on a site close to the point in the newer section and every morning they would fix him breakfast. Clyde said when he started cooking the bacon he would see Old Fella walking down the road coming to get breakfast.
There were others who told stories about Fella and how he had become a regular to their campsite, but always avoiding any contact with them, but always looking for a handout. It's amazing how he survived those many years.
Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.
