Richard, we used to care for a feral cat when we had our house. Our two Scotties loved to chase her off the deck. I felt badly because I would feed her and provided her a warm hut for the winter and the dogs chased her. I could never touch or pet her, she didn't allow it. One day I let the dogs out and she was on the deck. They quickly gave chase, but this time Miss Kitty didn't run. She arched her back up and I thought, "Oh no, we're going to have a fight." She mewed demurely and you never saw two dogs put on the brakes so fast. They almost ran into her, but they got stopped. Then she reached out with her face and touched noses with them. I thought carnage would ensue, but I was wrong. From that day on, they were all three friends. I have pictures of them laying together in the sun on the porch. She would follow them around in the yard. She would rub on them and they let her. It was so cute. When we sold our house, I arranged for a neighbor to care for her, but before we left she disappeared. She was an old cat to begin with, so I assume she died. But I learned a lesson about animals with her.
