145 Madera to I-5 (California)

Best route is take Crows Landing Road south and follow it around until it turns into Fink Road and get on I-5 at Fink. Unless you just like driving through the Country versus driving on I-5 this route is way faster.

Your right the route you describe is WAY faster and have done it many times. I was just looking for something different..
