Have never been on that end of 220, but looking at Google map street view, looks like a nice road.
  • From Roanoke to Eagle Rock its four lane, then its two lane from Eagle Rock to Clifton Forge. Every time I have been on it the traffic has been pretty light. It does see more traffic the closer you are to Roanoke and I81.
  • 220 is a great road. You shouldn't have any problems. I've driven it in an 18 wheeler and it was an enjoyable drive. The scenery is great and you might get to see some freight trains. There really isn't anything in between Fincastle and Clifton Forge so don't expect to stop for fuel or food in that stretch.
  • We prefer this route. You avoid mountains/hills. Easy drive.
  • Thanks. I have been that way several times but never pulling anything. I just wanted to make sure i was not missing anything. We are planning to stay in Clifton Forge @ Buckhorn CG. Wife has family all around the Craig's Creek area.
  • Great highway as said and only a small two lane stretch which is not a problem. Douthat State Park is in the vicinity and is one of the parks many others in the country have been modeled after so if you have a chance slip up there for a visit.
