25E Corbin Kentucky to I-81 and back

Has anyone traveled this route? Looking for other alternatives traveling I-75 to interstate 81. I believe there is a tunnel on this route as well. What would the clearance be width as well as height?

On the map it looks like a nice route.

Thanks in advance.

Coming back West out of Duffield there is one climb that will test your fortitude. My Dodge Ram with a 8.5k fiver would drop to about 30 MPH at the top if I hit it at 65 on the bottom. The Volvo with an 18.5k fiver climbs it in 9th gear (out of 10) with the cruise set at 55!

No clearance problems in the tunnel with a big rig, but you should have your propane shut off.

Was you Dodge Ram 1500 or 2500, gas or diesel.
What gear were you pulling in?
How does the climb compare to some of them on I-40 and I-26 coming from Cherokee to Wytheville.
  • Do the 25E route through the tunnel, no problems. They do like to have your propane off. Beautiful route.
  • We traveled to Bristol for NASCAR races twice a year for 15 years, always used 25E from Corbin both ways. There are some pretty good climbs on that route, and full access four lane all the way with a fair amount of local traffic.

Instead of dropping South on the East side of Cumberland Gap we used US 58 across Southern VA to Weber City, then dropped South to I-26. 58 is limited access four lane all the way across to Jonesville, then two lane into Duffield.
