95 through Philadelphia

Heading for Florida in the very near future. Usually take 95 thought Philly but hit a big construction delay last fall. Has that cleared up at all or is it still a bottleneck?

Thanks, Bill

I think there's some construction on the NJTP around exits 7 or 8 up in the middle of the state. Once you get south of that you should be fine. The area in NJ where the AC Expressway and I-295 andI-76 intersect a bit SW of Camden is still all torn up in every direction, and the re-decking of the Walt Whitman isn't helping, so if you're on the NJTP stay on it. Once south of Philly, it's fine all the way to the Del Memorial and over. Also, I-95 S of Wilmington is finally done around Exit 7 where it's been torn up for a couple of years.
  • Thats all I needed to hear, I'll avoid Philly. It's been bumpy/terrible for years so I really won't miss it. I'll either run over to the Turnpike or take US1 down.

Been using 896/301 to skip Baltimore DC for years. Actually think it's a bit quicker than 95, especially when you add the 695 detour in Baltimore.Comiing from the east side of NY, the 78, 81, 66, 17 route is over an hour longer. Only time I'll use that is if I want to make a stop at Cabells in Hamburg, Pa.

Construction delays on I-95 in and around Philly will never clear up. What was torn up last year is now the only place that traffic moves on, since PennDot and NJDOT and DelDot are in a contest to see which organization can use more orange barrels at one time. Unless you're picking up a large sack of money in Philly or something, I'd strongly advise detouring around it using one or more of the routes suggested above, depending on your starting point.
  • Every year I make the trip from Florida to Maine and back. Heading West to I81 and then crossing back to 95 anywhere south of DC only adds about 100 miles and avoids lots of traffic, tolls and aggravation. There are way more RV parks and convenient food/fuel stops that are easy on/off using I81. For the East coast of Fla I95 south from Richmond on down works fine. For the West coast I81 to I75 is good too. There are lots of alternate routes on non Interstate roads too if you prefer.

What part of NY?? western , central or eastern..?? I would avoid 95 in and around Philly... stay in NJ on the turnpike or 295.. go into DE onto 95 for a few miles and hit 896 to 301/50 cross the bay bridge stay on 301 South to just North of Richmond... The construction is in 2 places on 95 in Philly... first up near Cottman Avenue.. and secondly down near Center City
  • If you are even thinking of going near Philly/Baltomore/Washington are you must like punishment. I'd pick something well to the west, even if it is a bit longer, to bypass the whole area.
